TV Recording Hi! The product Sony RDR-GX300 DVD Player seems to have limited TV channel inputs so it is not capable of recording from TV channels such as #135 or #240 etc. that we receive via our cable TV provider. Is there some adjustment on the product that will allow for this? Thanks! Jim

Hi, thanks! Could it be possible this 2004 year model only has 99 channels and this is why we cannot watch and record channels 100 and above? If so, is there any way to adjust it to receive and record channels 100 and above? Again, thanks! Jim

Hi

There is no such adjustment possible on your sony RDR-GX300. However, you can tune your favourite channels like #135 or #240 on your TV. To tune these channels on your TV manually go to settings menu of your tv and select manual tuning option. And store these channels on channel number less than 100. There are firmware upgrades available however, those can alter proper functioning of your Sony Player.

Hope this helps... If it does please do not forget to accept the solution or post back for assistance.

Unfortunately this isn't a problem with your recorder, it's a problem with this channels - lately more and more channels have implemented DRM systems and activated their no recording flag. This flag is transmitted with the signal and when received by a recorder will prevent it from recording . So your Sony is doing just what the flag is telling it - it refuses to record.
There's no way to eliminate this flag legally (it's considered piracy) and practically impossible to do it on your unit without a special firmware .

Your device is receiving and it's capable of recording from every channel  form 1 to 125 (but not above) that is available, but it must be programmed correctly  (the Tuner preset must be on cable, not antenna). If some channels are missing you can try to manually search for them and program yourself as specified in the manual, page 72.
    No manual? Here it is.

Hi, thanks! On page 42 of the manual, it shows the recording example of selecting channel 215. Given you say the highest channel is 125, then is this channel 215 a misprint? Thanks! Jim

That was for a Satellite receiver (which your unit is capable of controlling thru a data cable) - they have up to 4000 channels . Over the air transmissions have only 158 channels - only 125 of those can be received with the tuner on your recorder.

My Sony RDR-GX300 DVD Recorder is suddenly only recording the 1st 15 seconds from the DVR. The entire show is on the DVR. I have tried discs that I've used before successfully & new DVD's.

1) pass the Disk cleaner buy to some radio schack, and test it
2) test the cable in another device, and determine if faulty or not.
3) if not clean the terminal from DVD VS TV with c.cleaner
4) otherwise the Syscom inside and another associates circuit is faulty such like record ampl.
go to the repair shop for fix it.
God bless you

HOW DO YOU BURN A DVD ON A SONY DVD RECORDER RDR

Make sure your Sony input signal is on L1 or L3 (the inputs in back of recorder) or on L2 which is for inputs for cameras(located in front).Once you get a signal, you're where you need to be. Choose your recording mode for recording speed (pull down the flap on the remote control for this button and also the input button).
Choose from between1 hour and six hours. To archive really important stuff, stick with the first 3 speeds. TV recording can be on 3, 4 or 6 hour mode.
Push the record/pause button once. This will put the recorder into the record/pause mode and then it awaits you pushing it again to start recording immediately. Just pushing record will force the machine into a 3 to five second delay before actually recording anything so you might mess up and miss the first few seconds of your input. Suggest you use a dvr-rw or dvd+rw to practice on.

When your recording is done, just push the pause again. It stops recording but allows you to add more on to the first recording without starting a new chapter if you want. Just continue to release the pause button to continue.
If you are satisfied that you are finished, then push the pause button to stop recording. Wait for the info to be written(flashing message on screen). When it stops, you may play the dvd.
Notice- since the dvd has not been FINALIZED, you may only play it back on this unit without finalizing. It will not play on other dvd players unless you finalize it first.
To finalize, look on remote for the TOOL button. Press it once. Now push DISC INFO once. Use arrow keys and enter button on remote for the following. Scroll down to FINALIZE and press enter.
Use arrow keys to scroll to OK. push the ENTER button. Finalizing should take between 30 seconds and 2 minutes.

Warning- if titles or chapters are to typed in, it must be done BEFORE finalizing. Finalizing afterwards cannot be done.
Erasing can be done in part or all if using an RW+ or RW- disc

Leaves blank TV screen when Return button operated

It sounds as though the unit is actually recording a DVD, but is getting no incoming signal to record. What is your recording source? Satellite and receiver? Antenna? Cable box? In the set-up menu, be sure you have chosen the proper input source; i.e., recording from where? You may be able to access that menu through the Function button on the remote, AFter setting that menu, be sure to press Return to restore the recorder to the ready mode. If you are using the RF input for recording, be sure that is selected as well, as opposed to L1 or L2. The input channel must match the output channel on your receiver, usually channel 3 or four. What is the model number?

Connecting and recording sony hdtv, rdr-hx780 recorder, sony dream system

I have the same system, except for the TV, I have a project (that part doesn't matter).

From your Sat. go straight to your AV receiver
Again from you Sat. (all of the AV outputs are all live), go out from either 1 or 2 and go to your recorder Line 1 in.
From you AV receiver go to your TV.

All you have to do is hit record and you will record whichever channel you are on. I am having difficulty getting it set up as a PVR, but will figure it out sooner or later.

Hope this helped.

CANT FIGURE OUT HOW TO RECORD OFF AN 'AV' SETTING

The method is the same as for TV channels; select the input (i.e. view the desired channel), then press the record button. AV1 and AV2 usually are at the end of the channel list, and can be found by pressing the channel UP or DOWN buttons.
