My TI-83 has the result that ln10E4 is 11.51 when it should be 9.2. Is there a different setting under MODE that I need to change?

The natural log of 10E4 is about 11.51. The natural log of 1E4 is about 9.21.

Do you want the log of 10 to the fourth (ten thousand) or of 10 to the fifth (one hundred thousand)? What keys are you pressing to enter the argument? If you press 1 0 2ND EE 4 then you're inputting ten times ten to the fourth or ten to the fifth. If you want ten to the fourth, enter it as 1 2ND EE 4 .

Where is the exponent key on the 531x

If you mean the key to raise a number to an exponent, it's the key marked "y^x", two keys above the "7" key. If you mean the key to enter an exponent of ten, it's the key marked "Exp", just above the "7" key.

How to solve 10^48

If you want to calculate 10^48, you can press 1 0 y^x 4 8 =
y^x is the key located just above the divide key.

If you simply want to enter 10^48, you can press 1 EE 4 8
The EE key is located just above the 7 key and makes this expression mean "one times ten to the forty-eight power."
If you press 1 0 EE 4 8 then the calculator will interpret this as "ten times ten to the forty-eight power," which becomes 10^49.

I dont know where the power of ten button is, it is really confusing, when you dont know where it is when doing equations on your homework.

To enter an exponent of ten, use the EXP key in the middle of the bottom row. For example, to enter 1.2 times 10 to the 7th, press
1 . 2 EXP 7

If you want to raise 10 to a value, use 10^x, the shifted function of the LOG key on the top row.
