Not having the service manual, sometimes the NVM gets corrupted on these machines.
The NVM can get corrupted and cause these error messges to appear especially when inserting a new copy cartridge.
Not easy to correct.
Reinitilazing the Main PWb can take care of these types of faults.
If the main pwb needs to be replaced the drum unit and developer housing needs to be replaced as well.
All the parameters need to be rechecked and can be done by a Xerox Serivice Representative only, to check for critical areas.

J2 is the indication that the Drum Cartridge life has elapsed. The possibly exists that the Customer has installed a New Drum Cartridge. The Customer would be directed to change their Drum Cartridge by their User Guide. This action on the part of the Customer will cause the Drum Reset Switch to actuate for a moment when the Side Door is closed. This is with the provision that the Drum Reset Circuit is working properly. That momentary actuation of the Drum Reset Switch, being actuated by the New Drum, resets the Drum Counter. Should something be faulty with either the reset mechanism on the New Drum Cartridge, or the Drum Cartridge reset Switch circuit, the Counter will not reset. Note: A new Drum Cartridge will NOT reset the Drum Counter unless the machine is holding a J2 presenton the display. The first revolution of the Drum will render the Drum Cartridge used. A Used Drum Cartridge will NOT be capable of resetting a J2. Again, one revolution of a new Drum Cartridge will render it to be a used Drum . Cause:

Ask the Customer to show you a receipt or invoice to prove that they purchased a Drum Cartridge from Xerox, or one of the Major Office Supply store such as Office Max or Staples. Without a receipt, or proof of purchase, the Customer should be directed to order and replace the Drum Cartridge.

If J2 remains after a Xerox Drum Cartridge replacement:(Tip 154504)

    a-Enter Diagnostics Input Code 30-01

b-Actuate the Drum Reset Switch while observing the UI Display indicator labeled 50%-200%. The LED should glow when the Drum reset Switch is actuated. This would indicate that the Drum Switch circuit to and from the Main PWB is OK. ( See*Note)

c-If the led glows when the switch is actuated, perform a Drum Count Clear Diagnostic 24-(07). Check that the 22-(12) Diagnostic Code shows that the Count has reset. This should conclude the Service Call.

*Note: If the UI Display indicator labeled 50%-200% is not glowing or glows continuously when the switch is actuated or deactuated, continue with step d.

    d-Remove the Control Console.

e-Unplug the 2-wire connector CN902 on the Control Console .

f-Check at connector CN902 between pin 1 and 2 for a resistance reading not more than 1 Ohm (Do Not trust continuity beepers for this test). With the switch actuated the resistance reading should go to infinity. If not, the Drum Reset Switch is broken internally. There is no part that can be ordered to replace this switch. The Switch must be acquired from Scrap and Salvage efforts. Contact your parts District IOM for process directions.

g- If the Drum reset switch is good, reconnect CN 902 to the Control Console, and reinstall the Console onto the Copier / Printer.

h- Disconnect CN20 on the Main Pwb of a Pro 16 or Pro 215 Families (CN 116 on the XD100 Family) and check the resistance of the top 2 pins on the Ribbon Harness while the Drum Reset Switch is actuated and released. Again the readings should be Zero Ohms and Infinity. If not, replace the OP harness ( PL 7.4 item 4). The Control Console itself could also cause this problem (PL1.3 item 8).
Note: The Control Consoles on the XD100 and XL2140 Families will have different part numbers. Use the PL 1.3 hyperlink below for those Machines of the XD100 and XL2140 Families of Machinery (PL1.3 item 8). The XL2140 Family are not clearly noted on the Edoc. Field Engineering ETI (Tip 164382 - PLI) contains an attachment for the XL---- Family that will clarify the parts needed for the Control Consoles on those products.

i- Reinstall the Ribbon Cable, and repeat the steps a to

On the front of that drum, there is a green cover. Take it off and what has happened is the flag on the gear had dropped in shipping.

You will see a flag like piece of plastic on one of the gears, reset it to up and somewhat to the right.

Then put the green cover back on

That flag has to be in the up position when new. It passes down and actuates a drum reset switch on the machine.

When that is back in the up position. re insert the drum and on the first revolution it will turn on the switch.

I can try and send you more information if you provide an E-mail address, or simply take the drum back to where you bought it for exchange.

SOURCE: J2 Error on XD125F

With that machine, what frequently happens is the flag in the drum unit falls down during shipping and does not swipe the drum replacement switch.
You can do one of 2 things, Exchange the drum cartridge or, on the front of the cartridge you have to remove the green cover, Remove the clip and pop off the gear cluster. Then look at the one gear in particular that has a flag like protrusion. Rotate it so that it stops up and to the right, so that when you place the drum back into the machine it can rotate down and hit the switch that tells the machine you replaced the drum.
That flag only runs a half turn, one time at install. And if it has fallen in shipping hte J2 will not clear.
That is what has happened. It is pretty common.

Hi, I have a Workcenter XD102. It gives me a J2 error. I don't know how to fix it. Please help. Thank you very much, Charles

J2 error for Workcenter XD102 indicates a Drum Cartridge Problem sensed by the main PWB indicating that the Drum cartridge had reached its end of life. You may replace the Drum cartridge with a brand new Drum Cartridge. This should fix the problem.
If you believe that its not the Drum cartridge with or without replacing the Drum cartridge, you may try to open the printer, make a good clean and perform the below. 1. Check the PWB and Drum Cartridge Reset Circuit for any loose connection and short circuit. You may re-seat the cables and terminations and test. 2. If that didn't work you might need to get some voltage from the Drum Cartridge Reset Circuit as per below. 2a. If voltage is more than 0.5 VDC measured between PJ CN116-2 and GND then you need to replace the Drum Cartridge Reset Switch PL x.x. 2b. If voltage is less than 0.5 VDC measured between PJ CN116-2 and GND then actuate the Drum cartridge Reset Switch. Then check the voltage if its +5 VDC measured between PJ CN116-2 and GND. i. If not then replace the Drum Cartridge Reset Switch PL 5.. ii. Else it should be fine. iii. If not then replace the Main PWB, PL 7.1.

Getting J2 on the screen copier won't work

That means the drum cartridge has reached the end of its life.
You can replace the drum unit or the chip on back.
You can google a business called "the parts drop."
They should have both.

HI, MY XEROX 1045 COPIER has making ""clicking"" sound

That indicates you need to replace the drum cartridge. It's been a while since I supported those products, but I believe the cartridge is in the bottom of the device. Make sure you remove the toner cartridge before tipping it over or you'll have a mess to clean up and won't be able to remove the drum.

Once you replace the drum, you need to reset the copier.

Xerox XD100 that is showing a code J2

No. The CRUM is integral to the Drum Cartridge. The only way would be to swap CRUM from a cartridge that failed for a reason other that it reached end of life.
