Way to identify the public IP addresses of routers, involves executing a ping or "traceroute" command. From inside a home network, the (DOS) command "ping -r 1" will send a message through the home router that will cause its IP address to be displayed. For example, "ping -r 1 www.yahoo.com" should result in a message like the following displayed on the command prompt:

Reply from 66.94.230.43: bytes=32 time=294ms TTL=56
Route: 209.179.21.76

Can`t obtain an IP adress from router or modem.

You may have already tried this but it is where I will start.
  1. Unplug the power cord from the router and the modem at the unit.
  2. Wait 30 seconds.
  3. Plug the power back into the modem.
  4. Plug th power back into the router.
  5. Give it a few minutes or until the lights are back up on the display.
This should prompt your ISP to reset you IP Address. If you need more help please let me know. Thanks (and please vote) J.H.

Install netgear wireless g router wgr14 v9

connect it to your modem with the WAN port and connect your computer to its LAN port and turn off everything. Then start modem, after 30 seconds the router and after 30 seconds the computer. No configuration should be necessary unless your modem is using an IP address and your router need another and you only have one from your ISP. Then you will need to contact your ISP to get another one or have them figure how it will work on their site. Use DHCP for your computer if possible so there will not be a subnet conflicts or IP conflicts or something.

I have a MacIntosh computer and wanted to install NetGear WGPS606 54 Mbps Wireless Print Server w/4 Port Switch to serve a Canon Pixma MP830. The hangup is the IP address assigned to the printer. I had...

You can assign ip with 2 method 1 is manually and other is automatic .
If you set manualy ip you must need to set gateway as your printers and other computer's gateway.
Subnetmask is same in all system.
For example if your netgear lan ip is 192.168.1.1 then your printer ip 192.168.1.5 sunet mask as 255.255.255.0 and gateway is 192.168.1.1
Other computer's ip 192.168.1.6 subnet mask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.1.1
Make sure the printer driver installed and it is in network.
IF you want ip from netgear then you need to enable dhcp in it.
Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link.
http://192.168.1.1 or
http://192.168.0.1 or
http://192.168.15.1
or
http://192.168.2.1
If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it.
Then it ask for user name and password.
Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank.
Then you can see configuration page of router.

Then click on dhcp then enable save settings and restart netgear.
Then in printer set ip get automatic from router.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks for using FixYa.

Internet connection dropping out

Hi powergirl_18

The problem is that your router is trying to connect to the ISP's DNS IP and it's not always connecting. This is a common problem (especially with Cable subsribers Road Runner) You will need to log into your router and go to the Basic Setting and manually put in a DNS number that will work. You should contact your ISP to obtain the IP that will work. If not you can try 209.15.151.2. That's a dedicated DNS, and sometimes it works, and sometimes not. You really need to get a good one from your ISP.

Good Luck

I got a NETGEAR wireless modem WPN824V2 i can get on the internet through the cable but cant get on through wireless. My wireless switch is on and it says I got excellent srength.CAN anyone can help me...

Thanks for posting. First reset the modem by pressing the reset button, then connect to the admin page of the router, normally the gateway IP (http://192.168.1.1). The you will find the WAN (isp) settings. Enter your login info for your isp and clone your mac address, normally under advanced. __________________

Hi ,

If the problem is the wrong key entered then you should just modify it in the Access Point settings. Access Point settings can be accessed as Below.

In Tools->Settings->Connections->Access points
delete it then create a new one, or modify it !

Kindly give a feed back for this.

Thanks and regards
