I removed the fuser unit and reinstalled it but that did not work. I had just bought and replaced this fuser unit about 2 months ago.

Sorry, I called the 800 number and they walked me thru a reset....it's working fine now. I'm glad I called them since it only took about 1 minute to reset and it didn't cost me a thing.

For Ricoh machines, this error code "sc 545" refers to overheating problem. In most cases, only opening and removing the fuser unit and reinstalling it fix this problem. So I would suggest you to do this as first option.

If the above method isn't helpful, your options are to replace the thermistors on the Fusing Unit and or to replace the whole Fusing Unit (Fuser). the error message simply means, you need to call a tech so that he/she can repair it for you. If you know what thermistors are, how to disassemble the machine or how to dismantle the fuser, you can do it, but I wouldn't recommend that if you are not good with these things. You may damage it further instead of repairing it. If repairing once is failed, most tech will charge you higher fee and will take more time.

If you have problem calling a ricoh tech, better replace the fuser unit, most of the times, this saves time and money. You'll need to pay only for the unit and delivery (if applicable). But if you call a tech, you'll pay for both the parts and service charge.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Thanks, and it's good that you have tried my instructions. But it seems you didn't replace the thermistors yet. At this situation, the most important thing is to replace the thermistors if you are not ready yet to replace the fuser unit. We should understand that since it's only a machine, even if i replace today, it can fail tomorrow or next week or next month, no one knows. But if we can fix it in a simpler way, like replacing a part or removing a part, that's the best and in most cases, repaired unit works longer than even new and expensive unit.

You can also try removing the fuser and power on the machine, if the error message shows up on the screen even without the Fuser, then no need to work around with the Fuser, better directly call for service.

Even replacing the thermistors don't help, your only chance is to replace the fuser. If you still have another old or new with working condition, you can try to make sure the problem is with the fuser.

    I wish you Good Luck.

    Thanks for using FixYa.

Power outage last night. Deleted all saved voicemail messages. when turned on - machine says "no massages" How do I retrieve lost messages?

I'm sorry there isn't. Answering machines like this have very little ROM memory. After a powersurge and outage like last night, it wiped the whole memory chip. You can try there support page. It's actually pretty good. http://telephones.att.com/telephones_ui/support/index.cfm
