Question about Dishwashers

1 Answer

Dishwasher is leaving white, cloudy film on glasses and obvious soap rings on plates/pans. I believe it is soap b/c when I add water to a pot it bubbles like dish soap. The problem started after only a few uses, maybe even the first, on a new purchase. We have very hard water and the rinse aid is dispenser is set on the highest level. Any suggestions?

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your problem.

The white coating is actually detergent that has been left on the dishes; several things can cause this.

Newer dishwashers are continuously being made to use less water to meet energy and conservation standards. The detergent and rinse aid manufacturers have not changed their amounts much but the dishwasher manufacturers keep trying to make smaller size dispensers. With less water and more detergent/ rinse aid the white residue forms. The residue tends to build-up, and not just on the dishes but in the washer as well, so each wash just keeps over extending the amount of detergent, compared to the amount of water. If your detergent has rinse aid in it, then the problem magnifies. If your home has a water softener then the problem magnifies more; it makes it harder for the water and detergent to work together.

The first thing you will need to do is check the volume setting of the rinse aid dispenser; it should be set to only 1/4 of the allowed release; usually they are preset to release at 1/2. Next, whenever you fill the detergent cup, only fill it 3/4 full. Also check your detergent bottle; if it has rinse aid in it, do not use it; extra rinse aid will compound the problem. If you have a water softener installed, use only 1/2 the detergent and 1/8 the rinse aid.

Pour a cup of vinegar in your dishwasher and run it with no dishes and no soap on the heavy wash cycle; do this routine once a month since it is great at removing the residue and it will also help lengthen the life of your dishwasher.

In addition, always scrape your dishes and rinse them with water only, prior to putting them in the dishwasher, regardless of what the salespeople tell you.

There is one product i would recommend :-

There is a product called dishwasher magic that will remove all the hard water build up as well as mold and mildew inside the dishwasher. Here is a link to the product you will want to order and replace :-

Cloudy film left on all dishes and glasses. How do I remove the film?

Buy a gallon of white vinegar and rewash your dishes this time add 1/4 of a gallon of vinegar in the water with no soap just vinegar and water.... Also check and see if the dishwasher is completely draining you may have another problem that the dishwasher is not completely draining and you are washing with dirty water...... check the screen in the bottom of the dishwasher and the spray arm to see if they are clean and open...... I have used vinegar in my dishwasher and it has taken the cloudy film off... You may have to add it a couple of more times if you have a real bad build up......
I also use cascade complete dishwashing soap and has helped the problem with the cloudy film.

All glasses and plates have a cloudy film remaining after wash

Hi
White film deposits are observed if water is hard or when you are using more detergent than needed, try filling detergent cup half way. Try using white vinegar after the wash cycle is complete, run a complete cycle. Also turn down the heat on the hot water fed to the dishwasher. Try using water softener for better results.
You can also add vinegar in the final rinse cycle. Make sure that your soap dispenser drawer is opening and closing fine.
Hope this helps... Please post back if more information is required.

If you have hard water, glasses can look spotted and cloudy even after cleaning. Sometimes changing the dishwasher detergent can help. The easiest solution to clearing up glasses that start to look cloudy is to add some vinegar to the bottom of the dishwasher before you start a cycle. Simply add 1 cup of white vinegar and it will clear up your glasses very well.
You should see marked improvement after the first time you do this. If they are not crystal clear then simply repeat the process until all of the cloudiness is gone. In fact I recommend to using a little vinegar in each cycle to maintain the clarity of the glass.

Note: you can pre-test this by rubbing some vinegar on an individual glass with a cloth. If you cannot remove the cloudiness by soaking it and rubbing vinegar on it then it is possible that the glass is etched due to harsh or cheap dishwasher detergent and vinegar will not solve the problem.

Frigidaire Dishwasher problem

The problem is hard water. There is a new product out called the dishwasher2_bing.gif filtration system. It filters the water before it enters your dishwasher. It works amazing and has a money back guarantee. You will love the way your dishes look after the first load. It is also very affordable (like 70 bucks). Go to www.dishwasherfilter.com to find out more info.

Dishes have cloudy film on them

Try this. I want you to run your dishwasher empty, on the hottest water setting. Let it fill and just before it starts the wash cycle put in three cups of white vinegar. I expect your jets are clogged and the vinegar should hopefully open the jets back up. You don't need to add soap during this cleaning process. Works just like when you clean your coffee maker.
