Re: need an update
You'll need a USB cable to connect to your computer, and you need to go to....
There you'll find all the map updates for your GPS.
DO NOT TRY TO LOAD THE ENTIRE NORTHERN HEMISPHERE MAP ONTO YOUR NUVI 200. It doesn't have enough memory. Load only US map!!!
I speak from experience. Been there, done that!

connect the unit to the computer using a USB data cable and then go to www.garmin.com and register the unit, if your unit is new you get one free update with-in 90 days if outside that time frame you will have to purchase either a one time update for 49.99 or lifetime updates for 89.99
First you'll have to register with www.garmin.com. When you register you'll be asked to create a username and password. Note it down as you'll need it anytime you go to update in future. WHen you've registered, click on my garmin, then click on my maps. IF there's an update it will be shown there. Click on get update and follow the download instructions. You'll need a broadband connection as the file can be very big, 4 Gb for Europe, and a credit card to pay. The update costs around 80 euros. If you don't have a broadband connection you'll have an option of getting the update on dvd.
You can go to mygarmin.com or garmin.com
. You have to register. It is for FREE. Then, you can update your GPS. You can also download maps by just following the screen
You can also find all the software/drivers you need there.

If the device does not power on it could be a result of a extremely low
battery. Please ensure that the device is receiving a charge while it is
connected to the vehicle power cable. If the battery is receiving power from
the vehicle power cable then the battery icon (located next to the time) would
disappear from the Main Menu.
If the unit does not power on while attached to the vehicle power cable
please follow steps from below to perform a soft reset:
Connect the device to an
external power source1
Slide and hold the power key
to the on position for 15 seconds
The device should power on.Notes:
Preferably the vehicle
power cable or a USB cable from a computer
Some of the older Nuvi
200 series will have a reset button on the bottom of the device. It can be
found on the bottom of the device on the same sticker that the serial
number is printed on.
your GPS unit powers down before it can fully boot up, the battery will
need to be charged. Please charge the unit with the vehicle power
cable or on a computer for at least three hours. After charging the unit,
it should power on and function normally. If the unit will not charge in
the vehicle, check the fuse in the power cable for the unit and
the power outlet in the vehicle.
I contacted Garmin and they had me disconnect my unit from the computer and down load the updater again. The down load shows up with two files the updater and another one . I had to drag them to my desktop and then drag the one file onto the updater and then plug in my unit and start the updater.
Hi It is more important to know how to add POIs. Here is a simple tip:
1. Create some directory especially for download. I use the following one: C:\Garmin_POI_GPS_DATA_TEAM
2. Download and save all CSV and BMP files to that directory. You may create any subdirectory and use it to save POIs for that category. I use: C:\Garmin_POI_GPS_DATA_TEAM\Restaurants, C:\Garmin_POI_GPS_DATA_TEAM\Petrol etc.
3. Garmin's POI Loader will find all files in these subfolders and will use them to create a category. Garmin POI Loader will search through the directory C:\Garmin_POI_GPS_DATA_TEAM and will create/transfer all corresponding POIs to your connected GPS.
4. You can remove any POI file simply by removing it from your POI folder. and re-running the POI Loader software. This POI update procedure takes about 1-2 minutes.
In summary, keep your POI files updated on your PC and run POI Loader to update your GPS or SD card via any SD card reader.
The sd card slot is used when you buy update maps. It's easier to update directly from the website, but if for some reason you can't, you can buy the maps on a sd card or on a CD. Then transfer to the sd card and load it.
