Similar problem with some added details. The view through the view finder is very dark although visible. AF goes to both extremes and then stops in the middle of the range unfocused with green dot flashing. Will trip shutter in MF. Have tried 3 known good AF Minolta lenses. Seems like it should be an obvious problem but I can't see the solution.

Turned out to be well known problem with aperture on old Minolta cameras. Years ago when parts were available cost $150 plus parts to repair. Now that these cameras sell for less than $20 the problem goes in the trash can and you chalk it up to "education is expensive".
I have two now via e-bay. Thanks to all for trying to help. Stan

Further clarification. Although the shutter will trip in MF mode it is NOT FOCUSED. Green light still flashing. Shutter will fire at any focus point but the picture is not focused.

If the view is dark the mechanism controlling lens opening is likely bad. not enough light and camera cannot focus. Either the control ring has jumped pulleys or the control unit is kaput. Remove lens and look at tab on ring just inside of lens mount by lens release button. that tab should be at approx 2 o'clock position..

I had the same problem. Took it to repair shop and the "gasket" that locks the lens into the camera was cracked. It is a factory part that comes in the camera that is plastic. They replaced it with a metal gasket with a lifetime guarantee. I was told to only use lenses with a metal coupling as well. This was years ago, bu if I remember correctly, it cost approx. $140.

Try turning off Auto-Focus.

How do I get the battery to work when it is a new battery? The battery light keeps blinking

Blinking battery is sign of transport problem. Probably failure of the transport gear unit I the bottom. Minolta is out of business so no parts. Some tech do a fix on this, you would have to call your local repair shops. This is too complicated for a novice.

I used my camera for 17-20 shots but then layed it aside and haven't used it again until now. Will the film be harmed? It's been over a year. That's probably a silly question but can I...

Hi Barbara - The film is actually a digital data file in a digital camera so your 17-20 photos should still be fine on the camera. Data files don't go bad with time.

You can just take up shooting from where you left off originally, just make sure the batteries are fresh and off you go.

Good Luck and happy shooting,

My shutter stopped working on my minolta X 700 how can I fix it myself.

It sounds like the same problem I had your capacitors need to be replaced. They store the energy needed to fire the shutter when you depress the button. Most camera shops are aware of this problem and the can obtain the parts. The replacement requires camera tear down and soldering in the parts. If you don't feel comfortable doing this then take it to the repair shop.

Minolta Maxxumm 4 - rewinding too soon

Hey Pix4me,
I would make sure that the manual rewind button on the back of the camera is not stuck in, or you're not accidentally hitting the manual rewind button. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,

“Shoot and Select” Modes

e “shoot and select” modes allows you to select an image out of a sequence of still pictures you have taken by depressing the shutter button and storing it. This is best for shooting moving objects. SHOOT & SELECT 1: Shoots a rapid succession of 4 still pictures by keeping the shutter button pressed. SHOOT & SELECT 2: Shoots a succession of still pictures by keeping the shutter button pressed. The Stylus 500 will continue to shoot until you take your finger off the shutter button or until the card is full. After shooting, you will have the option to immediately delete the pictures you do not wish to keep.
