Similar problem with some added details. The view through the view finder is very dark although visible. AF goes to both extremes and then stops in the middle of the range unfocused with green dot flashing. Will trip shutter in MF. Have tried 3 known good AF Minolta lenses. Seems like it should be an obvious problem but I can't see the solution.

Turned out to be well known problem with aperture on old Minolta cameras. Years ago when parts were available cost $150 plus parts to repair. Now that these cameras sell for less than $20 the problem goes in the trash can and you chalk it up to "education is expensive".
I have two now via e-bay. Thanks to all for trying to help. Stan

Further clarification. Although the shutter will trip in MF mode it is NOT FOCUSED. Green light still flashing. Shutter will fire at any focus point but the picture is not focused.

If the view is dark the mechanism controlling lens opening is likely bad. not enough light and camera cannot focus. Either the control ring has jumped pulleys or the control unit is kaput. Remove lens and look at tab on ring just inside of lens mount by lens release button. that tab should be at approx 2 o'clock position..

I had the same problem. Took it to repair shop and the "gasket" that locks the lens into the camera was cracked. It is a factory part that comes in the camera that is plastic. They replaced it with a metal gasket with a lifetime guarantee. I was told to only use lenses with a metal coupling as well. This was years ago, bu if I remember correctly, it cost approx. $140.

Try turning off Auto-Focus.

How do I get the battery to work when it is a new battery? The battery light keeps blinking

Blinking battery is sign of transport problem. Probably failure of the transport gear unit I the bottom. Minolta is out of business so no parts. Some tech do a fix on this, you would have to call your local repair shops. This is too complicated for a novice.

Minolta Maxxum 400si 35mm Is this a good camera? My husband and I are thinking about buying one used for our daughter who wants to get into photography. We found what looks like a good deal but I don't...

The Miinolta 400 si SLR 35 mm is an excellent camera for a beginner as well as the seasoned photographer. It has a complete automatic mode for the point & shoot picture taker as well as manual modes if you want to favor shutter speed over aperature or aperature over shutter speed. I've had one for years and have gotten excellent results.

My shutter stopped working on my minolta X 700 how can I fix it myself.

It sounds like the same problem I had your capacitors need to be replaced. They store the energy needed to fire the shutter when you depress the button. Most camera shops are aware of this problem and the can obtain the parts. The replacement requires camera tear down and soldering in the parts. If you don't feel comfortable doing this then take it to the repair shop.

Thhe camra will not advance the film or take a

I used minoltas for a number of years while going through college, though unfortunately this problem is fairly common- was a few years back but first time it happened to me i took the camera in for repair and if i recall theres a part that just breaks inside (number of years, cant remember the part).

It would have cost me round £60 to repair- bout 6 times the cost of the camera from ebay- I eventually just started buyin a new one from ebay every time the problem cropped up again.

I realise it may not be what you want to hear if your particularly fond of your camera, but the cost of replacing a part may very well be more than the camera is worth.
At the moment I have a minolta XG-M sittin on my shelf, hoping to track down some service manuals and see about taking it apart- I'll let you know if i find anything out, even with my fancy digital camera i still miss using the old 35mm.

Minolta Maxxumm 4 - rewinding too soon

Hey Pix4me,
I would make sure that the manual rewind button on the back of the camera is not stuck in, or you're not accidentally hitting the manual rewind button. I hope this helps!

Minolta Maxxum 7000 35mm SLR Camera not working

Dear Minolta friends,
I have recently bought a second hand Maxxum 7000 and a AF lens, but found the body not ocntrolling the aperture while shooting. I know 7000 has someting special. Is my problem is due to lens and body compatibility or actually the malfunction of the body. I am sure the AF lens is ok since i have tried it working with another minolta af body.
Can give me an advice?

Minolta X-370 wont shoot

Shutter release capacitor needs replacing and is easy to replace on these models. Remove bottom cover ( 4 screws ) and locate the small 6v 220 microF capacitor and replace making sure you get the polarity right. ( these capacitors have life span of 10 years and then the rubber iside perishes and they leak.)
