Card is locked and I am unable to unlock it

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

I am unable to take a picture, the screen says protected card. How can I clear this?

Pull the memory card out, along one edge you will notice a small switch slide it over to unlock the card. The switch that is furthest from the contact is in the locked position so no pictures are erased.

Receiving "card locked" message and unable to take

Take the memory card out of your camera and look at it. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

If that doesn't work, try another card.

I am unable to take any pictures, I can only review the pictures and movies I have already taken. On the screen it says Card Locked. How do I unlock the card? so if the switch is damaged does that means...

SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. The switch doesn't actually control anything on the card, it engages a sensor on the camera. Thus you could glue something onto the card in place of the switch.

Canon a590 Card (not really) Locked

Remove the SD card from the camera. Slide the tiny switch on the side of the card to its other "unlocked" position. Reinsert the card in the camera. But if you've already tried this, see this link for additional things that you can try.

Memory card problem

Hi and welcome to FixYa.

I'm not sure about your particular instance, but this can happen if you change up cameras or use a card reader.

As for being unable read the memory card, sometimes the card can be switched off by accident. Turn off the camera and remove the card. Look at the side of the card and there will be a little switch. One end says locked (or shows a little picture of a locked lock) and the other end says unlocked (or, shows a little picture of an unlocked lock). Just move the switch to unlocked.
Try that, and let me know with a comment if that doesn't work, othewise, thanks for coming to FixYa!

Memory card locked!

There is alittle slide on the memory card.
Take it out. Look for it. Depending what you have it may be yellow, look on the left. If it's down, slide up and it will be unlocked. :)

Card locked canon powershot sd750

Check the switch on the side of your SD memory card. It is a small sliding switch which has a lock position. Sounds like the switch is in the "locked" position. Unlock, reload card, & you should be good to go. If not, the card is probably damaged.
