Question about Hotpoint WM56 Front Load Washer

1 Answer

The drum on my Hotpoint WMA454 appears to be jammed, it only moves a small distance without resistance. The belt is attached and ok and there is no noise as if it is the bearings, just won't move.

What you have probably got is an article of clothing that has found its way in between the two drums. Remove the belt without forcing it then carefully retry and rotate the drum. If spungy, yes something is stuck between the drums. Shortest possible way to remove the obstruction is to remove the heating element and carefully look into the hole once element is out. 90% of the time the clothing is jambed around the element. Use long nosed pliers or a wire with a hook and remove. Retry and turn drum. If free to rotate, replace element and retry once all is assembled.

Error Code & in washing machines..

Error 7 means - “Motor jammed / Drum shaft jammed / Tacho generator fault”

Motor jammed

The first possible fault could be if the motor is trying to turn but the motor is physically jammed. This is likely to be rare. It’s easily tested by opening the door on the washing machine and spinning the drum by hand. If it moves normally and freely it’s clearly not jammed and this is not the fault.

If it is jammed or very stiff then making sure the machine is disconnected from the mains supply you can just take off the drive belt. You can then see if the motor is jammed or not because the shaft where the belt fits wouldn’t be able to be turned by hand.

Drum shaft jammed

This would cause the exact same problem in that the motor is trying to turn but because the drum was jammed it couldn’t. Again, easily tested by turning the drum by hand – if it’s free then it isn’t the fault. If it’s jammed or very stiff, removing the belt will let you determine whether it’s the motor or the drum that’s jammed.

Tacho generator fault

The way a washing machine detects the speed of the motor is via the tacho coil which is the last potential fault listed.

The tacho coil is on the outside of the motor attached to the end opposite the drive belt with 2 thin wires running from it. It’s a small coil that surrounds the shaft of the main armature where a small round magnet is attached. As the armature turns the magnet on the end of the shaft turns inside the coil. It’s then easy for the pcb to count each revolution of the small magnet and work out how many revolutions per minute it is turning.

hello. Check the idler wheel to be sure that it is not bound up. If it is change it. In fact, it is a good practice to change it everytime the belt is replaced. If you are sure that the idler is ok, your motor may be on its last legs. J.

Drum not going round

Hi Friend,
welcome to fixya....
may be the drum belt is the fault, Here are some possible causes of a washing machine belt coming off :-

1.The drum pulley is loose

2.The drum bearings have gone (collapsed) causing the drum pulley to wobble
3.The drive belt was to slack
4.A motor fixing bolt or bracket securing the motor to the tub has broken or come loose
5.Water has got onto the belt causing slippage
6.An obstruction or item of clothing temporarily jammed the drum causing the belt to spin off ,,,,,,,,,,,,

first check whether it is hard to turn the drum if not then check the above situations,,,ok

if you think that i helped you please rate it\\\\\\\\

Door won't open on wf000

Hi,
Never reach inside the washing machine with it connected to the mains. The door interlock is always live!
There are several reasons why a Hotpoint door could be jammed shut. One of them is the part you describe which is called the ******. With some older Hotpoint models, there is a cable that runs from the door interlock to the motor. When you operate the door catch or button, this part "pecks" down onto the drive belt or the end of the armature's shaft. If the drum is moving, the ****** will slip on the rotating belt or armature and disengage the door interlock. If the drum is not moving, the ****** meets resistance and the door opens. Therefore if the ****** has come off, or is loose, it can stop the door opening. When you attempt to open the door does this part move?
Other things that can stop the door opening are -
A broken door catch or door frame where the door catch screws in (they are rubbish on many Hotpoint’s - always breaking) you can sometimes get the door open if you push the door firmly in as you open it
If there is water still inside the washing machine, then the door wont open either on these Hotpoint washing machines (not on some others though) If this is the case, when you try to open the door the ****** won't try to move down at all. You can open the door usually if you drain the machine. (only applicable with door interlocks that have a rubber pressure hose attached to them)
A faulty door interlock
The pressure chamber can be blocked on some earlier Hotpoint washing machines which gives the same effect as having water in the machine. Basically the washer "thinks" there is water in when there isn't. This would require the washing machine being stripped down to remove and clean the pressure chamber bottle. This cause is only applicable to washing machines where a small rubber hose is connected to the door interlock. This hose allows the door mechanism to be locked and unlocked by air pressure activated by water rising inside the pressure chamber bottle attached at the other end on the tub. Gunged can block the very small aperture where the pressure hose fits to the pressure chamber bottle.

Drum will not move

Try to remove drum belt, and then turn drum by hand, if it does not turn , then you have either siezed drum bearigs, or some thing jammed between the inner and outer drum
If drum turns freely, then check motor to see if it is free to turn.

Thanks.

Fitting a new drive belt to a hotpoint aquarius

Remove lower rear panel, tilt washer forward, getting someone to help, and fit belt round motor pulley, then fit belt round drum pulley, slowly turning the drum pulley round as you feed the belt on, it is very tight, and you might think the belt is to small, but this is normal, as the belt stretches, just persist, but be careful you do not trap your fingers. Good luck.

My hopoint bwd 129 drum is not turning. Could it be a problem with belt. I so how do a replace the belt?

There is an access hatch on the back of the washer.

Do some basic troubleshooting first:
  1. Open the door and spin the drum by hand. Does it move OK? i.e. it isn't jammed.
  2. Does it spin really really well like there is no resistance at all? Possible snapped belt.
Pull the washer out carefully and make sure there's enough slack on the water hoses and mains cable to get access to the back without causing a problem. Look at the back panel, there's a large oval panel approx 16" tall by 12" wide. It is held on by five or six screws. Using a cross head screwdriver of the correct size remove these screws. Grab the bottom edge of the panel and tilt it up slightly to slide it out.

You'll be looking at the back of the washer drum. The motor is at the bottom slightly before 6 o'clock. It should be obvious if the belt is attached or not.

Replacing the belt is straightforward. Just make sure it lines up with the grooves on the motor pulley.
