If it's clicking that;s a sure sign that it is faulty. As for recovering it, well the only way I know and it ONLY works IF the fault is on the Main Board, and NOT INSIDE the drive, then obtaining another identical drive, and swapping the controller boards, often will get the drive going again. However often they fail internally, and that sound you hear, often, are the heads whacking into the stop, inside the drive, which is not good in any case.
Most times though when a drive is like this, it is beyond repair. Unless sent back to the manufacturer, for data recovery. Which would be very expensive.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

Rikiki external hard drive clicking sound

The clicking noise is an indication of a head-crash. The drive is damaged and won't be usable. Restore your files from your backup drive.

If you don't have a backup drive, you'll have to pay someone to try to recover your data.

Just yesterday my desktop pc worked fine but, today when I turned it on, it would not boot up as usual. I cant even boot up in safe mode or choose a restore point, nor can I install a new OS or repair...

It sounds like you have a bad hard drive. Your best bet is to install a new hard drive and install the OS onto it, then attempt to recover any data from the old hard drive externally using an external enclosure. Note any noises from the old hard drive like clicking (it's usually very loud and consistently timed), if you do notice anything then you won't be able to recover any data without spending a lot ($600 + ) of money.

***a black screen appears on my acer telling me... check cable connection! PXE-M0F: Exiting Inetel PXE ROM. No bootable device --

Sorry to hear that. It sounds like your motherboard is having trouble finding your hard drive. When the BIOS screen comes up, enter setup (I believe you press F2 for Acer motherboards). There should be an entry for boot order. Make sure that the hard drive is in the list and selected to boot. If it is in the boot order list and it still won't boot from it, your hard drive may have failed. Take it to a PC specialist and they should be able to recover the info from your hard drive.
