Question about Whirlpool Dryers

1 Answer

My tumble dryer only blows cold but the drum rotates. I think this could have happened because the filter was not cleaned for 3-4 loads and; therefore, the dryer may have over-heated. I have looked for some kind of obvious reset switch but can't find one. I have also purchased a new heating element and fitted it but still get cold air only. My latest theory is that the last 5 mins of the cycle are for airing, i.e. cool air only, and that the timer switch maybe sticking in this mode somehow? Any ideas

Odds are that the thermal fuse is blown.  could also be the high-limit sensor but try the thermal fuse first.

Maytag dryer drum not rotating

Sounds like the belt that turns the drum has slipped off or broken. Not sure if I would consider this a DIY project, but if this is the problem, a professional fix should not cost much.

Turned on dryer & tried to start but it gave a load thud noise & wouldn't go. Stop it then re-started a light came on stating clean filter. Clean filter & look inside that area to see if...

there is a sensor located beneath the lint filter, more the likely the dryer sheet residue is on it, gently brush it off, it has two screws. As far as the loud thud noise is/may be a problem with the drum/rollers/glides/belt/idler arm/motor Here is a website that will assist you, once the filter light goes off and the drum will not turn.Good Luck Tim

Whirlpool not blowing or tumbling

check to see if belt is still on drum. might have broke. thats the only thing that would cause the drum not to rotate but still should have air flow. the blower wheel is hooked up to the motor itself. your problem might be the motor itself has gone bad. if belt looks good then your motor is not turning.

Maytag dryer won't rotate after blower wheel replacement

Check the drive belt and belt tensioner. From the way you describe it, the belt is loose and with a load in the drum, it will not rotate due to belt slipping.

Kenmore Elite Dryer with loose paddle- can I glue?

Unplug the dryer.
Remove the lint filter.
Remove the screws at the lint filter opening.
Pop the lid clips on the left and right front corners of the cabinet.
Rotate the drum counterclockwise until a tumble vane(paddle) is at the 12 o'clock position.
Tighten the screws going through the drum.
Repeat this for the other 2 vanes.
Re-assemble the dryer.

Whirlpool Ultimate care ii Dryer wont tumble

If your dryer doesn't tumble, check these:
Belt,
Motor,
Door switch.

Your dryer can't operate at all if the door switch is defective. It's inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.
Dryers have a drive belt that turns the clothes drum. If the belt breaks, the drum stops rotating. Then you need to replace the belt, and often the idler pulley, because the pulley tends to wear out at the same time.
If the dryer motor only hums when you press the Start button, the motor may be burned out. Here's how to test the dryer motor:

Remove the belt,
Check for obstructions in the blower fan housing,
Manually rotate the shaft of the motor.

If the motor is very stiff, or impossible to rotate manually, and the blower fan housing is clear, you need to replace the motor.

If the motor rotates freely, run the motor momentarily with the belt removed and the blower in place. If the motor runs fine with the belt removed, there may be a problem with the idler pulley or the clothes drum. Try to rotate the drum by hand. If it is very difficult to move, correct any problem with the rollers or pulley, and then reassemble the dryer and try it again.

TRY DISCONNECTING THE EXHAUST FROM THE BACK OF THE DRYER AND RUN ONE LOAD THROUGH IT. IF IT DRIES O.K., THEN YOU HAVE A RESTRICTION IN THE DUCT WORK.

WHIRLPOOL AWZ2303 TUMBLE DRYER ONLY BLOWS COLD

It's call a bad thermal cut-out. You should have a thermal cut-out and a high limit thermostat located adjacent to the heating element (usually mounted right on the heating element housing). They both should read a short or fairly low resistance in the case of the thermostat. If the thermal cut-out is blown it is not a resettable device and must be replaced. The tco is usually sold along with the high limit thermostat. It is HIGHLY recommended that you replace BOTH at the same time. DO NOT attempt to bypass any of these devices either. They are there as safety devices to prevent overheating. You could end up with a fire if you do. Now...with all that said, the tco will blow for a reason. Not cleaning the lint trap will contribute to it, but the big item is the ducting. If the vent ducting is clogged you will experience longer dry times and eventually the tco will trip again. Take the time to THOROUGHLY clean and/or replace your vent ducting from the wall all the way to the vent opening outside. In addition, while you have the dryer open THOROUGHLY clean the inside as well. This includes the air baffle where the blower fan is located. Rule of thumb: if you have lint INSIDE the dryer, it's clogged somewhere. Good luck and I hope this helps you.
