    hi,
i'm planing to install this used ibm BLADE server for a customer.http://www.itsco.de/Server/IBM_Bladecent...

But i'v never done it before.

    i would like to know:

-it has 14 blades, bu i would like to install a single os using all the processor toghether, like a multi cpu server, since it will be used as a render farm. is it possible or i have to install a single os on each blade?

-Wich kind of os can install? just server system or allso windows 7-xp 64bit?

-Since it has 14 disks, one on each blade, can they be configured as a unique raid 5? if not is there a way to make a software raid?

    - each blade has a rj45 port, will i have to connect each port to a switch or just the chasiss ?

    - what is the included switch module used for? is one enaught for 14 blades or i need more?

-it has 4 power supplyes of 2000w each, will the total power consuption 4000w right? will it be so high allso if no operation is performed?

You can install single os like win 20008 server enterprise edition or other version of it. Configure RAID with raid utility you can see key stokes for enter in raid utility. You can configure all 14 disk like single harddrive with raid configuration. Just use 1 rj 45 jack don't need to connect all rj 45 . 14 blades enough. N o worry about power supply just connect it to power strip in rack connect all cable to serial . Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.

are you sure i can configure the in a unique raid5 on that specific modell?

each of the 14 disks is on a separate blade.

is there a raid controller into the management module?

i need to know how high is power consuption, since the studio i'm gonna install the server doesen't have a lot of power avvailable..

Is it possible anyway to connect each blade trought rj45 port in a teaming like config to increase bandwith?

  • If your motherboard support in bulit hardware raid utility then you can see key stokes for use raid utility when you power up the server.
But if not then you can configure all harddrive.
For that you need to go to right click on my computer icon then click on property then click on manage then disk management then right click on all drive 1 by 1 and create dynamic disk then you can use all harddrive as 1 single drive it is software based raid.
Yes you can get more bandwidth with 1 rj 45 jack but for that you need to create bridge between all lan port .
Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.

i haven't bought it yet, i would like to be sure first...

i don' know if that motherboard support raid.... it's a blade server, i don't even know if it has motherboard?

can you help me find it out?

i would like a raid 5 config, is it possible trought software raid?

  • If you install win 2008 server edition then you can configure any raid configuration in disk management just create dynamic disk of all harddrive which you want to make raid 5 then you can use any raid as you want after installing win 2008 server.most of motherboard supports in built raid so check it in bios first.
Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.

IBM BladeCenter HS22 (7870) not boot from cd/dvd

Hello,

Go into the BIOS and change the boot devices so that the CD/DVD boot first. Also, make sure your server is seeing the correct blade and its devices. (If not check your connections.)

A 9U rack has a front opening that is 40cm high.

IBM xSeries 360 Server support Win 2003?

The good news is IBM says it will work, the BIOS might require an upgrade. I would consult ibm.com and get the latest updates for your hardware after that insert CD and reboot!
Have Fun.
