Question about Canon PIXMA MP540 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Open Question

Hi, My MP540 has died, there are no signs of life at all. It happened after a power cut. Canon say they do not repair this range of printers so I am looking at it myself as I am a retired electronics engineer. Do you have a schematic or do you have any best guesses as to what is wrong? My best guess is the power supply module. I have it open in front of me and it does smell suspicious (literally) although nothing shows signs of heat. There are three 'fuse' type components which all measure as I would expect. Do you know of a source of parts for this machine?

SOURCE: canon pixma MP540 printer: unable to print black

Have you checked the ink level on the black ink cartridge? It's probably out. Or if it's a new cartridge, make sure the tape covering the connecter has been taken off.

SOURCE: my canon pixma 190 printer is not working

In printer utility settings, you have to modify the ink cartridge settings and specify that printer should use only black ink cartridge. Click apply. Then press "stop\reset" button for 5-7 sec. and then release
it.
Then it will work!

SOURCE: Canon MP 270 spooler problems paper jam problems scanning probs

I have had problems with this printer, too. See my Amazon review here:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/B002LVUKL0/ref=cm_cr_dp_hist_1?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=0&filterBy=addOneStar

(Mine is the second one down).

The Canon MP270 does seem to have a few problems. It's not one of Canon's finest products, to say the least. It seems to be getting a reputation for problems, problems...

I gave up and bought a HP Deskjet printer instead. I know that's not a fix, but I found it was the best solution!

Canon Printer Pixma MP540 with error code B200 - what can I do? Thank you for your support. Arthur

Try to press down on the sponge to get it to work again. It may be a waste toner issue, which generally is repaired at an authorized service center for canon by contacting 1-800-OK CANON or logging on to canonusa.com.

Good luck on this.
