Hello local mo,

1. First of all, try to download the latest version of the printer driver and have that installed.

2. Next, open the printer cover and manually inspect the inside to see if there is any paper piece or foreign material that may be obstructing the printer. Also inspect the carriage return to see if there is any obstruction there. The carriage should park on the right side by default.

3. Try to reseat the ink cartridges again. Do it one at a time and take notice of if they feel and look as though they are sat right; when you first sit them in the carriage before you close the lid they don't look like they are in properly, they give the illusion that the back of it should be lower down than it actually is. Make sure you haven't assumed this and tried to make them sit lower. Also clean the printer head.

4. To rule out the computer and the cords, unplug it from the computer and power it on. If it powers up normally, then you have narrowed it down to a cable or problem in the computer. In this case consider repalcing the cables. Also try unplugging the printer (vs. using the panel switch) for 5 min or so and then re powering. After about 5mins, reconnect the printer to your computer, making sure are connections are secure.

5. Download the SSC Service Utility. It is a must-have free utility for Epson Stylus printer users. Try the SSC reset feature .
http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml,
or http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/epsonSSC.html
You can use the SSC service utility to reset the protection counter.
You can also use the control paler to reset the counter. Timing is the key to success when you reset the counter using the control panel so keep that in mind.

To reset the protection counter using the control panel (front panel) :
Step 1.Turn the power on while hold the following buttons. Paper feed, cleaning button. (the paper out light will flash for 3 seconds)
Step 2.While the paper out light is still flashing press the cleaning button for 10 seconds. The following LED's will flash in sequence - Ink out lights black and color, Paper out light. Once the printer starts to initialize the counter should be reset.

This will reset the protection counter. Again timing is the key to get the the above sequence to work. The timing is tricky but once you have it down it works like a charm. If it doesnt work the first time, please try 2 or 3 times until you get the timing correct. Also it is a good idea to replace or clean the absorber pads For info on the basic process try this link http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/wip.html

6. You must use the SSC Utility to re-zero the protection counter. If the SSC throws up a message "Printer off or some other problem" it's usually due to some unfinished job held in memory. Just turn the printer off and wait a minute then restart it. The SSC Utility should then function. You can probably reset this counter one or two times before you will have to open up the printer. You have to extract the waste ink pad in the base and either fit a new one or simply wash and dry the old one. It's probably good for a couple of washes but is fragile and will start to disintegrate in time. Next,uninstall the Epson Status Monitor (aka Epson Ink Waster) and use SSC for all your ink servicing. You will probably have to uninstall the complete Epson software bundle to get rid of the Status Monitor but it's well worth doing. Just reinstall the driver and any application stuff you need.

Hope that helps...Should you have any further questions, please feel free to post them here.

This may be a call for your waste ink pad to be serviced.

Every time your printer goes into a cleaning cycle ink is pulled through the head and stored in this waste ink pad.

There is a procedure for this but it is more involved than the average owner will want to get.

A way to temporarily silence the flashing until the printer can be serviced may be :

"Turn the printer on while holding down both the ink and paper buttons. When the paper light flashes release both buttons, then press and hold down the ink button for 10 seconds. This allegedly resets the printer to "new" condition.

Let me know if this helps and whether you need additional help

thanks

Epson Stylus PHOTO R220 red lights keep flashing

I hope this will help you :)
* Green Power light flashes- The printer is receiving a print job, replacing an ink cartridge, charging ink, or cleaning the print head.
* RED paper light is On- If the CD/DVD try guide is open, close the CD/DVD tray guide, load paper, then press the paper button. Your paper ran out or multiple sheets loaded at the same time . Load paper and press the paper butoon to resume printing.
* RED paper light flashes- Paper is jammed in the printer. Press the paper button to eject the jammed paper. If the light is still flashing , open the cover and remove all paper, including any jammed or torn pieces. Then reload paper and press the paper button to continue printing.
* RED Ink Light Flashes - One or more cartridges are low on ink. Check the message that appears on your screen to determine which cartridge is low, or follow the instructions in " Checking the Ink Supply". Make sure you have a replacement cartridge.
* RED Ink Light is ON- One or more cartridges are out of ink or not installed. If you have just installed a new cartridge, it may be incomaptible with the printer or incorrectly installed. Reinstall it or replace it with the correct cartridge
* RED Ink and RED paper lights flash alternately- The CD/DVD tray guide was left open when you turned on the printer or when printing on paper. Just simply close it/
* Green Power Light is Off; RED paperand RED Ink Lights flashing- Paper may be blocking movement of the print head. Turn off the printer, then open the cover and remove any jammed paper or other foreign objects. Turn the printer back on again. Or it may have an internal error. Turn off the printer, wait a few seconds, then turn it on again.

My epson tx700 printer dispaly ink pad at end of life and printer not start

A fix from a forum:

Procedure 1 We found this procedure to work for the Stylus Photo 1270 type printer, and understand that it also works for the 870 range and even earlier models like the Stylus Color 740. The error is indicated on these printers by all four lights on the printer flashing. Even if you press the power switch on the printer, the lights continue to flash, and the printer does not turn off!
  1. Turn off your printer, ensuring that the print head is at it's home location and locked in place as normal;
  2. Power off the printer at the wall or by removing the power cable, for at least 20 seconds;
  3. When you restore power to the printer at the wall socket or by reinserting the cable, if the lights come back on straight away, the printer's power switch was 'on' - switch it off and return to step 1;
  4. Hold down the paper-feed button and the button with the ink-drops next to it, and then turn on the printer, still holding the buttons down;
  5. When the paper-out LED flashes, release the buttons;
  6. Press and hold the Cleaning button, until several lights flash - this will take a few seconds (i.e. then release the button);
  7. The printer will now attempt to reset, including resetting the EEPROM memory and running a short (about 10 seconds) cleaning cycle.
Procedure 2
  1. Turn off your printer, ensuring that the print head is at it's home location and locked in place as normal;
  2. Hold down the paper feed button only;
  3. Turn on the printer;
  4. As the paper feed light starts flashing, release the button;
  5. Immediately hold down the ink-drops button for some 10-20 seconds or until the printer springs into life;
  6. Allow printer to complete it's processing, then turn off for a few seconds, and back on again for a newly working printer!
Procedure 3 - for 1290 and possibly 890 printers 1290 printer with green (power / data) and red (ink / paper feed) lights flashing alternately:
  1. Switch off printer with panel switch;
  2. Switch off printer at mains switch - leave off for 20+ seconds;
  3. Hold down roll feed and sheet feed buttons;
  4. Switch on at mains;
  5. Switch on at printer panel;
  6. Continue to hold down roll and sheet feed buttons until both green and red lights flash together in synchronisation, not alternately;
  7. Switch printer off and then, after a few seconds, on again at mains switch;
  8. When red and green lights are both flashing in synchronisation, release the roll and sheet feed buttons;
  9. Press and hold down the ROLL FEED button (the one at the extreme left) and keep it down until the machine finishes whirring, cleaning etc and the green light comes on steady;
  10. Release the roll feed button and all should be well.
