You can buy a replacement touch screen from places like dealextreme.com for less the $3 http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.3245 They are not easy to replace for the unexperienced but you can find videos on youtube to guide you through it.

Well true, its not easy to replace, rather than getting a new touch screen. You can check with ChinaBuye.com where you can get at low price and without shipment delays. Rate is quite cheaper and reliable.

SOURCE: nintendo ds lite repair

i had the same problem, the light would come on and for a split second you'd see a blue screen on the bottom and then it poweres down again. its because the thin ribbion cable is not plugged in all the way. On the white connector where the ribbon plugs in , there is a little black door that clamps down on the cable keeping it inplace. make sure youve clamped it down or it will fall out. I thought i had it plugged in well there too ,but when i powered it up i had your problem so i opened it up and found that the ribbon wasnt in all the way, and then it would power up, but my touch screen was unreponsive. i think i chiped something on the mother board. hope that helps

ITS AN INTERMITTENT CONTACT with the ribbon belt that connects from the main unit to the upper screen , I believe you need to take the DS for an authorized repair shop, but before doing anything , give a call to a tech support at NINTENDO , THEY would gladly help you out and inform you whats the next step , hope this helps , AJ , in case you dont have the LINK, let me give it to you : http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/ ,

Unless you are comfortable of taking it apart yourself and ordering the part online.
