Make a direct connection and check the download speed...also check for the download speed through router... is there is a great difference then try disabling the firewall in the router and check the speed... this will definitely help..

I have a Humax rt531B, about 4 years. During August,Freeview suggested retuning, I have lost many stations, gained several new ones, which don't work, either scrambled or unavailable, poor strength.

Poor signal strength is the bane of any receiver. See if you can improve matters by connecting your antenna to a good antenna amp and connect latter to your humax. Bet it works better. Also position as high as possible and direct it in the direction of most of the stations you want to receive.

Fm works, am does not

Check the antenna connection. A poor connection will often be good enough for FM but make AM reception so bad the the radios auto-gain circuits will mute the output unlike old AMs that would just produce loud static in poor signal conditions.

Sony str-de185 left channel very scratchy and poor; not speaker, wire, or connections

Could be an open resistor in the amp for that channel. Might have to have a pro look at it.

Bad radio reception

This will be either bad antenna connection in the back of the receiver, bad antenna cable, insufficient or poor antenna type, or possibly a bad earth connection.

Front panel lighting is cutting out. A tap on the

The most common cause of this are poor connections at the display on the front panel board. Resoldering these connections should resolve the problem. While rare, it is possible that the connections at the voltage regulators on the main board are the soruce of hte problem. In any case, the repair is a labor only repair. Any shop that handles audio equipment should be able to repair this easily. I usually charge the minimum labor charge and check the entire board for any poor connections while it is open.

I am connecting an older receiver (amp) to my DVR

Did you try the DVR through the same input you're using for the DVD to see if it's related to the source or the input on the receiver? BTW: don't use the phono conenctors for anything but a turntable.
