The router being already set ...there is no need for the admin computer to be connected in order to work ...so ...if you remove the lan cord used to make the settings and have a wireless card on the laptop ..installed and functional ...just leave the router working ...and it will transmit the wireless signal like nothing happen ....and just activate the wireless on the laptop ..and search from the wifi card for the network...if you selected name and a password for it it will ask for the password when you locate the wireless network ..just like for the other 2...The issue is that if you ever have to make any modification in the router ..you will need to connect the same laptop in the same plug position to be able to make the settings cause this laptop's Mac address is seen like the administrator ..
In case that the laptop has no wireless capabilities..you have to buy a USB external wireless card ..and install it and it will work just like the insternal one ..

Well, we did that, but it will only connect to the network, not to the internet.

try to disconnect one of teh laptops and see if the router supports more than 2 of them ...cause what you are saying is not normal ...but in case that the router do not support more than 2 wireless internet connections..
if it still makes the same ..look on the other that works ..for the exact name for connecting it to the internet ..cause maybe you did not choose the right transmition ..but picked up one of the other laptop..
To make the connection do not ..use the wizard ...but ..activate the wireless..and in the tray system on the task bar will appear a icon with the wireless connection ...click on it ..and open the window..and somewhere in top left is a link that says scan for networks ..do it ..and from the list ..pick the router by its name ...and connect from the bottom of the page ...thsi should work for sure ..

The wireless network security settings on laptop do not match settings on router?

Hello.
- This error occurs when the wireless security that you set on the wireless laptop does not match the wireless security on the router.
  • If the wireless router's security setting is WPA but on the laptop you used WEP for the wireless security, that's when a mismatch occurs.

- What you can do to resolve the problem is to delete the wireless profile you created on the laptop. After that, let the laptop search for wireless connection available, select the correct wireless settings and it should connect.
--For example the operating system of your computer is Vista, in order to remove the wireless profile you created and reconnect to the wireless router, do the following instructions:- Go to Start>Control Panel>Network and Internet> Network and Sharing Center- Click on Manage Wireless Networks on the left panel. Delete the wireless profile then Search for available wireless networks again. Type the correct wireless security settings on your laptop
-- If you would like to know what wireless security has been setup on the router, connect the laptop or use a desktop which is wired to the router then access the router setup page by typing http://www.routerlogin.net or 192.168.1.1 in the address field of your browser and then press Enter. Enter admin for the router user name and your password (or the default, password).

--After logging in. In the main menu on the left, click on Wireless Settings, from there you can check the wireless security or you can setup wireless security from there if you haven't done so.

Cannot connect my acer 5600 wirelessly. WIFI is not lighted on. It says to turn on wireless switch.

The wireless switch is on the front edge of the laptop. With the lid closed, its position on the front edge is just under the right latch of the lid. Turn on by sliding the switch to the right momentarily. You should see Wireless LAN Enabled in large green letters appear briefly at the bottom of the screen. A single screen icon should appear in the desktop's Toolbar at the bottom right of the screen. If the icon doesn't appear, then likely the Wireless Network Connection is disabled. To enable do the following steps....
1. click start button at bottom right of screen
2. click Control Panel
3. in the Control Panel window, click Network Connections
4. right click Wireless Network Connection
5. on the drop-down menu click enable
If there is no Wireless Network Connection in the Control Panel's Network Connection, then the setting up of the Wireless Network Connection was skipped when the laptop was first unpacked and setup. In Control Panel, click on the Wireless Network Setup Wizard to setup the Wireless Network Connection.

I just got my Asus Eee PC 1000H and the first thing I tried to do was to connect to the wireless network in my house but I don't have a wireless network icon. The wireless and bluetooth are both turned on....

Hi,
I am assuming this has windows xp on it. Go to start settings/control panel then double click wireless network setup. Go through the wizard and go from there. If you need further assistance please let me know.
Thank you,

Connected to wireless router, not connected to the internet

Try setting up a new network connection in the Network and Sharing Center. You'll need your info from your router like:
router username:
router password:
network name (ssid):
network security type:
network security key:
connection type:
Some will also ask for a serial id(I've only ever come across one)

I've never used your particular brand of router but it ought to work the same way as far as the setup.

Cannot setup home wireless network between computers

Hi!
Since all computers are online, you do not need to change any setting on the router for the computers to share file or resources.

If you are using Windows XP - try this link:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304040

For Vista:

I hope that helps!

Good luck and have a nice say!

I'm trying to set up a Linksys Wireless A G card with an old Gateway Solo 5300 laptop. I use the same card with both a Dell Inspiron 8100 and 1501 laptops without problems. My network is setup using...

The old standby solution was used: I removed the card from the laptop and rebooted the computer without it. Then I re-installed it. I then checked the configuration and saw that it had not changed the network encryption to WPA-Personal from WEP - even though the card had shown that it had. So, I changed it again, and voila! - it worked. Can't believe that after working with these damn things for so many years, I can still get tripped up by the simplest solution...

I have a linksys for my computer and labtop my daughter needs a network key to get on her laptop where do i find this number.

I am going to assume that you have a Linksys wireless router connected to your computer.

The network key is set in the router by using it's set-up page. Usually, you type in a 26 character code or a text string that is used to form the key.
After setting up the router, you turn on the laptop, scan for available networks, and select yours. Then you enter the network key, which will be exactly same as that you entered into the router setup.

If you are having trouble connecting from the laptop, I suggest you first try setting up the wireless router to use no encryption, just to make sure the laptop can find the network. Once this has been established, activate the security features.
