My printer makes a clicking noisae and won't print

    THE IN USE MEMORY LIGHT IS FLASHING. AND PRINTER MAKES A CLICKING NOISE. THERE IS NO PAPER JAM.

    My MP830 in use memory light is flashing and making a clicking noise. I unplugged the printer overnight and problem remains.

    Could possibly be the paper feed. Have you made sure there are no paper jams or foreign objects? Does it try to pull paper from the tray and isn't able to? or is it feeding out blanks? Also, make and model of printer would help.

This solution is for webbie15. I have the same Canon PIXMA MP780 printer, and I got the same annyoing clicking sound after I moved it today, and whenever I tried to print, Windows said the printer was offline.

It turns out I accidentally plugged the square usb cable into one of the phone jacks (I was too lazy to look, I just felt my way back there). Amazing, but the usb cable FITS in a phone jack, and apparently shorted the printer into thinking it was on-hook, off-hook for a fax.

It's been months since you asked the question. Hopefully this will help others.

SOLUTION: Check and double check where the cable is going I had the same issues on my MP830. Blinking memory light, and would not print. Moved the USB cable into the USB port and supprisingly this worked ;) Hope this helps

You've probably got the usb cable in the telephone/fax socket... ;-)

May sound like a silly solution, but check that your USB cable is not *accidentally* plugged into the fax port. :-)

This seems like the mechanism that picks up the paper from the tray is not working. If the printer has a manual feed, try using it. If that works, then it definitely is the pickup mechanism and time to buy a new printer.

Printer won't print. I had to move the desk and everything was unplugged and now it won't print. It is on, checked as default, on-line, I think it may be the port.


  1. Background
    • HP provides details of the problem on its website. The problem usually occur on PC laptops or when printing across a network. HP offers several fixes for the problem.
    Software
    • First, check your Windows print queue and ensure the printer is not set as "Paused" or "Working Offline." This can often clear the problem and resume your printing.

    Resolution
    • The problem can also be caused by printer driver issues. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the printer driver. Connecting your printer directly to your computer using a parallel cable may solve the problem, but this may not be practical in all cases as many modern laptop computers do not have a parallel port.
Instructions
    • 1 "Power Cycle" Your printer. Shut down the printer, unplug the power cord from the socket, give it 5 minutes, plug it in again and turn it back on. Try to print.
    • 2 If the printer still won't process a job, shut down and restart your computer.
    • 3 Check your printer cable connections to the computer.
    • 4 Check the printer for any paper jams, check the trays, and also pull out the toner cartridge and/or remove any paper jam, if you find one. Put the cartridge back in. Then try to print.
    • 5 If after completing the steps above, the printer is still not working, click "Start," then "Settings," click "Printers," and the printer folder will open. Make sure your HP LaserJet 5 is selected as the default printer.
    • 6 Double-click your printer, and delete everything from the print queue, canceling all the print jobs. Close out the queue.
    • 7 Right-click on your printer icon and make sure it's not offline. If it is, then click "use this printer online."
    • 8 Right-click your printer, and click properties. Make sure the right port is selected for your LaserJet 5 Printer. If you are using a parallel cable, you are most likely using an LPT port; if USB, then look for a USB connection in the list. If the port connection is correct, try to print again.
    • 9 It's still not printing? Click "Start," then "Control Panel." Double-click "Programs and Features" or "add or remove programs," uninstall your Laserjet printer software, and restart your computer.
    • 10 Insert your Laserjet software and driver disk. Proceed to reinstall your printer software and drivers. Then test the printer again. If it is still not working, you probably will have to seek professional assistance.

Hp photosmart won't print in color


Blocked print head nozzles
Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent blocked print head nozzles. You may have blocked print head nozzles.
Try the printer maintenance to clear the printer nozzles.
After several deep cleaning attempts and there is no improvements in the print then a new print head is required.
A new print head maybe expensive and it maybe more cost effective to purchase a new printer.

Pc won't accept printer via usb connection


So why won't it accept the printer? Is the printer and your operating system on the computer compatible? Did you install the printer and drivers? Are you sure the USB Port works?
Have you tried a different USB Port?

Click Start/Control Panel and look for Printers. Open it and make sure you don't have more than one instance of the printer installed. If you do, then you're confusing the computer. You can also check to see if more than one of the same printer is installed by opening a word document, then click File, then Print, and when the print window opens up click the Down Arrow on the line that shows the printer name. This will show you all other installed printers.

The file currently in the print cue won't print. I tried to cancel the print but it won't delete. I uplugged the printer, did a restart, same problem. I tried to uninstall the driver, no luck as...


Try looking on the bottom right side of your pc, near the clock to find the picture of the printer or Icon for the print Que. Sometimes you have to click on a little arrow in this area to open it up and view all available. Find the picture of the printer and right click with your mouse on top of it. choose all printers and this should bring up a list of documents which have failed to print. Find the document and click on it then choose "delete" until there are none left on the list. make sure you use the "all printers" choice and not just the one listed in the name of your printer to clear this que. if this does not work, let me know by using the comment or reply links next to your question on Fixya and I will send more troubleshooting instructions.

Printer won't print - Acts like it is printing but come out blank.


I assume you have good full ink cartridges in the machine.

Go to your printer set up by clicking on START in the lower right hand corner of your screen then click CONTROL PANEL then look for printers - may be under DEVICES AND PRINTERS. Then make sure the correct printer is online in the drop down menu. Look around the choices after that and see if the test page will print properly. Good luck. Pete

Won't print...says printer is on pause


Hi,

According to your problem, first check the printer settings. Go to the Printer and faxes wizard in control panel. Right click on printer, if you fond there Resume printing then click on it. It will make printer working. Then reboot the printer and the system both. If it doesn't help you then there is the problem of printer software. Reinstall printer driver/ software again and reboot the both.

Keeps printing copies of what i copied last week and won't copy what i want this week


((make sure you have the printer turned off)) otherwise you it might print another page if you have multiple prints in the queue you will have to open a file that you are about to print click ok a page will open with a display print queue tab you can see all prints right click on the ones you don't need select cancel
it will be in the print queue where you can stop it printing right click to delete what you are printing you might have to uninstall the printer then reinstall to adjust your print settings

or just go into your printers settings to alter/change the settings

Hi! your printer need to print head alignment requirement.
click> Start
click> control panel
click> printer and faxes
you can see there your printer icon right click
choose printing preferences
then click maintenance

Disconnect the USB cable, go to RUN and type in services.msc and then find print spool and right click, then choose restart.
