Question about KitchenAid 24 in. KUDI01FLSS Stainless Steel Built-in Dishwasher

1 Answer

Our dishwasher is much louder during cycle, Argh!

I've made some simple repairs to this machine like relpacing the tension cord. The extended service contract is expired and now the machine is making a much louder noise during the intitial cycle and at times throughout.
Dishes are getting clean but sounds like the machine is working much harder. Sounds like the pumps are working overtime! Any help would be very much appreciated...

Above is your service and repair manual
I would wonder if the noise you hear ins't simply just a result of usage, as things age and wear they often, sort of "Loosen up" and this will cause an increase in noise level. As long as the dishes are clean, i suspect there is no actual Fault with your unit. For instance my machine makes quite a racket if you listen to it, which is why i set it to run when i am asleep... I would simply suggest you keep any eye, or Ear... on the situation, and see if anything worsens, as i say this just maybe how the machine is?

Kitchenaid Superba dishwasher getting louder in wash cycle

The bearings in the wash motor can wear and cause the machine to get louder, They can be replaced but it depends on the age of the machine if it's worth repairing or not.

Spin cycle noise. no longer sounds smooth

The rear half of the outer wash drum (which contains the rear bearing and tub shaft seal) needs to be replaced. On a 1 - 10 scale, this rates a difficulty rating of about an 8. An experienced appliance tech can do it in about 2 hours, and hit you up for about $500. I do not suggest this as a do it yourself repair. Did you know that the new LG machines use a balance ring to make them much smoother running? (Hint: It may be wiser to replace the machine.)
You can find a service provider, to do the repair or just get parts here:

GU1500XTL loud humming sound during the cycle, getting louder

The run capacitor on the main wash motor needs replacing. Eventually it will just hum and overheat instead of rotating, so better replace it now before it overheats.

I doubt you can acces it easily yourself, as it may be away from the motor, and have to be tracked down.

Handle ripped off Mantis tiller

Good job on the cord replacement. Most people take the cover off the spring and then find out it is nearly impossible to get the spring tension set. I have personally repaired dozens of these cords that have been messed up by owners that did that.
If anyone has this problem, just do what this post says...remove the assembly and turn the pulley until you can get to the part of the cord that is broken...grab the end that is broken after you get it out of the opening with a vise grip and pull the cord out fully and lock the recoil spring with a vise or vise grip (but don't crush it)...then replace the cord and hold the end of the cord pull fully extended and remove the lock and allow the spring to recoil...and reinstall the assembly.
Simple, but THINK before you take the housing apart. It is REALLY TOUGH to reset spring tension properly.

Washing machine is louder then normal on the spin cycle.

This sounds like the rear bearing is going. After getting louder, the next problem is grease appearing on your clothes during the spin cycle. This is a very major repair.

Diswasher motor making noise during wash cycle

It could be the impeller on the motor. The impeller fits over the shaft of the motor and might have split/broken up. That funny noise is probably the shaft spinning inside the damage impeller. Fortunately the impeler is fairly inexpensive and easy to replace. I believe there are one or two parts/covers to remove that are held in by a roughly half dozen torx screws.
