If the front panel has the menu feature, you can do it by pressing it and use the Volume/Channel buttons to navigate through the OSC screen until you get to close caption to turn it OFF.

How do you remove the subtitles?

Subtitles are controlled by 'CC". Closed Captioning. Look for a CC button on the remote or captioning.
Captioning usually is in the menu as well under 'settings'.
Closed captioning has several settings. OFF turns all captioning off. CC1, CC2, CC3 & CC4 are captioning styles. Text is for text channels.

The closed captions keep coming on. I don't need

Try changing the channels without the remote and see if the problem still exist. If it doesn't the remote is at fault.

I need to activate CC for my Dad, Please help I have to go to work. I have a flat screen SOYO

Determine if closed captioning is available on the program that you've selected. In your program guide, the letters "CC" should appear at the end of the description.
Locate the closed captioning option on your remote. Some remotes have a "CC" button that you simply need to push to activate closed captioning
Locate the closed captioning option in your television's menu if there is no "CC" button on your remote. To do this, push the "menu" button on the remote control. The closed captioning option will probably be in the same section as the language function.
Set the closed captioning option to "on." Within several seconds, you should see the text appear on your screen.
To use closed captioning for DVDs, look for the "CC" label on the lower back section of the DVD case where it lists audio information. Turn on your TV's closed captioning and you should see the captioning like you do on a television program. Alternately, some DVDs include English subtitles that you can turn on in the setup/language menu of the DVD.
Thank you.

I have a black filter over my picture which does not let me see my picture clearly.

You may have closed-captioning turned on and set for "text" mode. Check your settings and be sure it's turned off. Many remote controls have a single button to control captioning and it's easy to set text mode without knowing it. Then the set puts up an area for text to be displayed, but there isn't anything to put there. On channels where captions aren't being used you don't see any problems, but on others you'll see the box on the screen.

Your closed caption is turned on. Go into the menu and set captions to off or look for captions button on remote. Sometimes identified as cc. Press it until "captions off "appears on screen. That should do it. Good luck.

Closed caption

Have you verified that the programs you're viewing have closed-captioning service? Some programs and stations do not support CC on programs and commercials. The closed captions are accessed on the HD52W56 by pressing Menu > Preferences > Closed Captions on the remote control and following the onscreen instructions. Select CC1(the first choice for caption); this is the format most stations send in. Good luck!

Possibly the closed caption feature on this set has been turned on. There is a button on the remote control that says Caption. Press it until you turn the caption off. This will not be on a universal remote, only the original remote. You can also turn this off through the caption section on your on-screen menu.
