This seems to be a driver issue. As you have wiped out (formatted) your computer recently you have lost all the settings and softwares, which you have to setup again from the beginning.
If you need help finding the appropriate driver for your sound device. Please post the following: Model No Make
And if its a branded computer and you are using the integrated audio device the model and make of your computer would work
