My 32D40U would turn on for 5-10 seconds (Please Wait would appear) and the screen would go black. Sound Normal. It would also sometimes do this after running 5-10 minutes. I read somewhere that the inverter board would come loose and lose proper ground. I took the set apart, removed the board, and cleaned up the grounding points. I reassembled using some copper paste on the ground points and LockTite on the screws. I used some contact cleaner on all the connectors going to the board. I noticed two cables that are covered with copper shield tape where too tight at their connectors and repositioned the tape to give them some slack. The problem hasn't occurred since the fix.

From the information you have provided failed capacitors in the power supply is likely causing the problem. The safety circuitry shuts the TV set down when it detects a problem. This model of TV has over 2,000 parts which include millions of transistors inside the integrated circuits. The capacitors will change value, leak and become defective. Resistors will change value and burn. Integrated circuits and transistors can go bad. This can cause other components to become defective, which can have a domino effect and cause other parts to fail. Replacing one defective part may make the TV operate for a short time but the part will fail again since if the parts that caused the failure to begin with are not replaced. The only way to know for sure what is causing the problem, which parts that are no longer within factory specs and for proper repair all the electronics must be diagnosed by someone with the correct electronic test equipment and the skills to use the test equipment. The repair should cost about $250 if carried into a TV repair shop. A small TV repair shop will often charge less than a large repair facility.

SOURCE: Tv sometimes will not power
Possible that there are dry soldering joints in the TV main board or in the processor section. It will be good to remove and have a good visual check to determine , reconnect all connectors , re solder all the suspected dry/poor joints in the board.
Please find some tips for such related faults. TV malfunction
While you plug and unplug the board is being reset, so check the processor section, solder the microprocessor IC.
