Hey mate,
I had the same problem.

Mine started with the wireless card "disappearing" for the device manager which sometimes reappeared when I restarted but was slowly not reappearing as time wore on.

Then the computer sometimes didn't turn on, or would only turn on after a couple of attempts. It would power on, the fan would whir but the hard drive wouldn't speed up / seek and nothing would be displayed. I had another technician (I am one myself too) and he thought it might be software.

Keep in mind things not working and then working randomly is a good indication of hardware failure rather than software.

I bit the bullet, bought a motherboard for $130 AUD on ebay from China and started the rebuild.

It's easy to do. Keep in mind that your laptop is not working so you have little to lose. Start with the underside, remove all visable screws, then remove accessable components (hard drive, ram, etc) and slowly start to pry away the two halves of the bezle.

As you start to remove cables from the motherboard you will get towards the heatsink / fan. THE PLUGS AROUND THERE BECOME BRITTLE OVER TIME FROM HEAT. BE CAREFUL.

As long as you are patient and methodical you will be able to do this yourself.

Also start with the accepting belief that you WILL have to take apart and reassemble 3-4 times before you get everything right.
Best of luck

Can MSI MS-6380E support radeon x1800?

1) Motherboard uses a Socket A processor socket. Also known as Socket 462.

When they switched from the Athlon single-core processors, to the Athlon 64-bit dual-core processors, they went to a completely different processor socket.

So using the MSI MS-6380E motherboard with a dual core AMD processor = NO.

I don't seem to find an AMD Athlon 64 X2 1.8GigaHertz processor, except for a mobile version. One used for a laptop in otherwords,

Uses a Socket S1 mobile processor socket,

List of AMD Athlon 64 microprocessors,

Pretend like I'm from Missouri, and Show Me.

Find the processor by it's AMD part number, and post the URL of the website in a Comment.

AMD Athlon 64 3000+
SINGLE-core processor, not X2.
(Socket 939 processor socket, too)

Show me the Processor, and then we can go on.

Difference between DV6000 Intel mothearbord and DV 6000 AMD motherboard

The DV6000 is a moniker for an entire series of laprop computers, each with a unique model number that has some variation the DV6XXX. Some will have Intel Core Duo, some Intel Celeron, some AMD Turion 64, and some AMD Mobile Sempron processors. Features, speed, and cost will vary appropriately with the Obviously the AMD and Intel boards are different and you cannot swap processors between boards. Here is a link to the HP Maintenance Manual for the DV6000 series laptops. It lists all the Mainboards used with the series and what processors go on them. Amd athlon heatsink

If you don't install the heat sink and fan carefully you could blow out your processor. Make sure you clean all the old heat sink paste from the processor and the heat sink. Then apply a thin layer of paste like "arctic silver" on the heat sink so that it makes full contact with the processor. I think you have a socket A do a google search for "installing a socket A processor" and you should have all the info you need. Good Luck...Hank

Laptop not working

You've got it right - it's the dreaded nvidia chip failure. If you do replace the m/board ( not as expensive as some boards ) ensure the AMD processors heatsink fan remains clear to breathe - AMD processors run hot and this heat is what kills the nvidia chip.
Sorry but the only repair because the GPU ( graphics chip ) is built into the m/board is a new m/board.
