Question about PC Desktops

I have a puzzle for you ,I will describe the fault, and you leave me any information you can gather. The hard drive on Acer (xp) is 40gb, split into c&d drives The disc would not defrag as only 15% was free on drive C due to D being kept for data. Nick in work gave a disk with partition magic I made C nearly the complete size of the hard drive. This worked fine. I then defragmented the drive three times as instructed oops the computer stopped working When I turn on the computer the fan stays on ,The screen stays blank and the hard drive light stays off nothing comes up on the screen not even the Acer logo so I cannot us the recovery disk Adam thinks it is just a coincidence and that processor or motherboard has failed anything spring to mind

It is worth knowing the hard drive is up behind the battery
on the 1520 acer laptop.so no need to take the laptop to bits
anyhooo it did not solve the problem and the price
of parts makes it unviable to invest in the machine.
many thanks for trying.

There is nothing that changing the partition or volume information on the Hard drive would do to cause this issue. My first suggestion would be to unplug the Hard Drive and then try turning the PC on. If you get the Acer logo up then the Hard drive has failed. Otherwise there is something wrong with the Motherboard or RAM.

I would suggest taking it in for Warranty service if it is still under warrnaty, otherwise try what I have suggested. Good luck.

Remove hard drive for hp pavilion s3220n

Pretty simple. Just dismantle the case of your desk top. most of them will split open so you can leave it standing . There will be about 6 to 8 screws holding this together and a few "snap" type connections that pull apart. Remove the base first. Once inside identify the hard drive. unplug it and remove. Probably two screws holding it in place. Reverse process for installing new one.

I have acer travelmate 2355nxc with 40 gb hdd. want to know how to increase its speed and capacity.

Hi, how are you?

To upgrade your laptop, you will have to verify the capacity for upgrade of your laptop.

The Acer Travelmate comes with:

  • Intel Celeron-M 360 Processor 1.4GHz
  • 256MB DDR SDRAM -
  • 40GB Hard Drive
  • DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive - To read DVDs and CDs and write CDs
  • 15" XGA TFT Screen
  • Intel 852GM 64MB shared graphics
  • Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition

  • Based on this information, you can upgrade your memory depending on what type of memory your motherboard supports and how many empty slots for memory does your laptop have.

The hard drive can be upgraded also depending on which hard drives does the BIOS will recognize.

I will suggest to contact ACER and ask for the options and upgrades capacity.

    God Bless You!!!

    Hope it helps.

    Labtop computer internal hard drive

The drive you have is a IDE, Ultra DMA 133, 4200 RPM.

If you are running XP or Vista you can purchase any brand hard drive. Size depends on what you want to spend. Recommend Maxtor. Just make sure it is IDE and for a laptop. Most computer retailers will sell them (BestBuy, Circuit City, etc)
