Question about Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2) Console

2 Answers

My son's PS 2 motor will not turn. At first it just would not do anything. I have replaced the motor and laser assembly and the laser is now working good but the motor is still not working. It is at least now trying to read the disk but can't because the motor is still not running. Is there something I missed or could there be more problems with it.

PS2 slim laser and disc motor don't work

I may not be the laser asembly or anything you described because absolutely nothing happened when you put a disc in. I may be a little switch at the very front of the drive right at the bottom right (near the power button) that may be damged or not being pressed by an piece of plastic on the same place on the lid. That switch recognises if the lid is closed or not so it know when to stop or start a disc. Try closing the lid harder or pushing more on that switch. hope that helps!

Error code 52.0

A laser/scanner error has occurred

Recommended action:
1. From the DIAGNOSTICS menu, run the
laser/scanner motor component test.
Verify that you can hear the motor
rotate.
2. If you cannot hear the motor rotate,
verify that connector J1702 and J1505
are fully seated on the DC controller
PCA (ECU).
3. Verify that the connector J12 on the
laser/scanner assembly is securely
attached.
4. If the error persists, replace the laser/
scanner assembly

PS3 Inserted media is not spinning

I had the same problem with my PS3, I changed my 400aaa and thought it would fix the disc not spinning problem. It was'nt until i bought another brand new laser that it started to work again. I have heard rumors that some of the lasers you buy (like from e-bay) work but dont work right. I wound up spending over $140.00 to find out that my "New" laser was a refurbished one from China and didn't read any of my media. I went to a U.S. seller and he got me a new laser with a warranty and I'll be damnned if it didnt boot right up and run after that.

Your PS2 is equipped with a cooling fan which keep it nice and cool, the only problem is that it sucks up dust in the process.

*** WARNING YOU MUST BE VERY, VERY CAREFUL ***
Take your PS-2 apart, you will see the "eye" or laser, this is something you NEVER touch!!!!

Do not use a air compressor, it will spray moister and it has to high of a PSI!!

Get a can of compressed air and hold it upright (do not tilt the can of air or shake it or it will spray nitrogen, freezing your PS-2) and spray the PS-2 with the air using 2 second burst, moving the PS ,not the air. Be sure to spray the "eye" and the housing.

Reassemble the PS-2 and it should work fine.

If not, you need to replace the laser.

Screeching noise

Taken from /www.fixyourownprinter.com and definitely works. Don't touch the shiny hexagon part when doing this.

If you hear the squeal, then it is the laser/scanner motor in the laser/scanner assembly. It can sometimes be fixed but you have to be careful. You have to remove the top cover and the big black box in the center is the laser/scanner assembly. Sometimes you can access the motor by just removing all the cables from the laser/scanner and then removing the screws which hold the cover on the laser/scanner assembly and remove the cover. If you can not access it that way, then you have to remove the 4 additioal screws which secure the assembly to the frame. Now once you have access, the motor is the silver colored round item in the back of the assembly mounted on a small circut board. Remove the circut board and remove it from the laser/scanner assembly. If you look real close there is a small white plastic piece which holds the round motor piece in place. Use a needle nose pliers to remove that white plastic piece, but do not lose it. Now you can remove the round piece from the motor itself. Now here is where you have to be very careful. You will want to use 1 or 2 very small drops of light machine oil (tri-flo or similar) into the motor shaft. I would just use 1 drop and it should all disappear down the shaft. If you can see the top of the oil you put in to much. Now put the shaft and round piece back on, put the while locking plastic piece back on and reassemble and it may just work just fine. If not then the complete laser/scanner needs to be replaced.

Technics SL PD8 laser replacement

The answer is yes you do. The replacement laser pickup assembly has 2 motors already fixed to it so the pegs in the suspension have to be removed (2 off) and it is best to prise open the split in the receptacle to facilitate this without damage. Then 3 screws on the pcb need unscrewing and after the solder has been removed on the motors the boards will come apart.

Smearned Printing on Ricoh Aficio AP3800C Laser Printer

Hi there the smudges are most likely down to the black PCU (Drum Unit) and following are the reasons for the two fault caode you have given me.

SC 261 LD HP sensor
not switched
off (for K only)
After the laser beam pitch was
changed, it takes more than
five seconds for the HP sensor
to switch off.
• Defective motor
• Defective sensor
• Mechanical problem
when switching the
actuator
• Brown fuse (FU81) on
the Power supply unit
1. Turn the main switch off and on.
2. Check the sensor actuator position of
the LD positioning motor.
3. Replace the LD positioning motor.
4. Replace the LD home position
sensor.
5. Check and/or replace the PSU.

SC 380 Black
development
motor error
SC 381 Color
development
motor error
When the motor speed is
within the target level, the
motor sends a lock signal
(High to Low at CN214-5) to
the BCU.
SC380 is detected under the
following conditions:
• The Lock signal stays High
2 seconds after the motor
turns on.
• The Lock signal stays Low 2
seconds after the motor
turns off.
• The Lock signal stays High
for more than 2 seconds
while the motor is on.
• Defective motor
• Defective BCU
1. Turn the main switch off and on.
2. Replace the motor.
3. Replace the BCU.

Hope this is any help

Thanks J
