Black strip on Pioneer all-region DVD player

I bought a Pioneer all-region DVD player (DV-420vk). Worked fine at first. Then, on non-U.S. DVDs, a black strip appeared on top one-third of screen, pushing lower third off screen. I tried everything in the DVD and TV manuals, nothing worked, including vertical adjust. Works fine on U.S. DVDs.

I bought a new Pioneer All-Region DVD Player (DV-420vk). At first it worked fine. Then, when playing non-U.S. DVDs, at the top of the screen a black strip appears, one-third of the screen, pushing the bottom third of the image off the screen. This happens on different foreign DVDs of different films. But not on U.S. films.

I tried different PAL DVD's, and different NTSC DVD's, with same result: on PAL, the top third of screen is BLACK. On NTSC, no problem.

The multi region supporting feature might have been disabled... you can try to assign the region manually when you are using the Non Us DVDs...

This typically happens when you try to play PAL, DVD's on a NTSC player... It has to do with the Format of the DVD. Ensure you have the correct one chosen? I would imagine you also have tried to set the aspect ratio but to no effect, this then further supports the fact that it is not reading the Format information correctly. It has to do with the horizontal start point, some are incorrect and start 5 - 7 lines below the top of the screen, this is a DVD Mastering issue, There may be no way around it if this is the case.
If possible, could you try the DVD's that won't play properly on another exact device, this way you could exclude the fact that the actual DVD player is faulty.

How do I unlock my Pioneer DV-310-s so it will accept all dvds, thanks.

Here is how to Make your Pioneer DV-310 regionfree.
Use this link and go there.
http://www.pioneerfaq.info/index.php?question=Firmwares
Search for file YJA8703A almost in the bottom under DV-310.
Download and burn on CD with nero, make sure the CD is being closed after burning.
The just mount the CD in your DVD player and press play.
#1. Press upgrade.
#2. Wait,don´t touch anything now.
#3. The tray will open after about 5-10 sec, take out CD.
#4. Player will uppgrade under about 1-2 minut, then the tray will close by it self, and the player says "CLEAR".
#5. And now here is the secret. When player says "CLEAR" ,push and HOLD the "enter button on THE PLAYER until it turns off(about 5 sec).
And there you go,standing infront of your brand new Multi regional Pioneer DV-310.

At least this worked great for me.
Good Luck!

WILL MY DVD PLAY AREA 1 AND AREAV4 DVD'S?

Hi camonk2004,

It's interesting that your DVD player was purchased in Russia but plays Region 1 DVDs. Region 1 is North America. Does your Player also play Russian DVDs (region 5)? If so, then it has probably been modified to play DVDs from multiple regions.

Check the back side of the DVD player - the rear panel should have a Region number on it. If the region number is 1, then try playing a Region 5 DVD. If it reads the DVD, then the modification that was done in Russia will probably allow it to read any DVD. IF the Region 5 DVD won't play (or if it is ejected automatically), then your player's region control os still intact, and it will only play DVDs from the same region as the one listed on the rear panel of the player (or DVDs marked "ALL").

I hope this helps - please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Kind Regards,
H2H

Unlocking DVD - Pioneer DV400 k

Hi Jetix,

If the DVD player is capable of playing other regions, you should be able to change the region setting through the menu section. If there isn't an option to change the region settings in the menu, then your DVD player is not able to play other DVDs from other regions.

Sincerely,

Agent Xiong
