Question about Sony VPH D50HTU Multimedia Projector

1 Answer

Sony VPH D50Q projector doesn't see signals above 480i

I have a Sony VPH-D50Q (with EXB-DS10 Extender) and am using the RGB inputs via BNC connectors (InputA??). It receives std video (480i) just fine but when I send it 480p, 720i or 1080, it says "Input A - No Signal.
Settings include: Input A: Component (not RGB, HDTV-YBbPr or GBR). 5 BNC Mode is: Off. Internal IDTV is: On.
If I turn 5 BNC Mode on and try to use a switcher input, I get picture at all 4 resolutions but it is mostly GREEN.
Am I using incorrect setup settings and if so, what should they be?

Thanks for your help! - Tom S

HI Tom,

For some reason I cannot reply to other inquiry would you please close the problem, I am glad that the configurations worked out for you.

In order to configure the proyector for hd video you would need to change a couple of things in your set up.

First you would need to use hd cables, and not the rgb. You can purchase some standard high def cables at any best buy or radioshack, depending on the source device there is the standard high def out, the set of 5 cables, 3 video plus the 2 audio.

To enable the unit to support the progressive DVD signal, perform the following
procedure.

Connect the DVD player’s component output into Input A.
In the SET SETTING menu select HDTV-YPbPr for Input A.
In the INPUT SETTING menu highlight Sync and select EXT (HV).
The IDTV module disables itself automatically

Perform this procedure with nothing connected to the component input on the projector, otherwise you will get the an off/on flickering screen which prevents you from seing what you are doing when navigating the menu screens. Perform the procedure and then connect.

Let me know if you need anything else,

Al

When i connect the projector to my computer, all it says is no input selected. i need help with this IMMEDIATELY!!!

make sure the computer has the output screen signal enabled on the external rgb connector. you can confirm this by connecting an external lcd monitor to the pc. swap the pc vga output to the projector.
then make sure the vga/rgb input source is selected on the projector.
also select the lowest resolution on the pc to start with. when a picture appears on the projector, then increase the pc screen resolution until it says it's not able to show it, and back off to the last setting that worked

It could be your cable is too long and the attenuation is too much.
Can you use the same lead that you did for the TV ?

Hello

Your TV will display all High Definition signals as 1080i True HDTV™ and all standard definition signals will be displayed as 480p.

Component Inputs 1-2
YPbPr(480i/480p/1080i)
These inputs can be used for the connection of A/V equipment with component video outputs, such as a DVD player or external HDTV receiver. Please see Appendix B for signal compatibility.
Input DTV (480i/480p/1080i)
This input is used to connect an external DTV receiver, and can be configured for YPrPb and RGB plus H&V signal types.

As a special feature, you have the ability to adjust the red and blue light beams in reference to the fixed green light beam. This process is called convergence. There are two separate memories for convergence. One, for SD 480i/480p signals; the other for HD 1080i signals. SD convergence should be adjusted while watching an SD source and HD convergence should be adjusted while watching an HD source.

Wide Expand: Enlarges the picture, cropping some of the image on both sides. This Expand format is useful to remove or reduce black side bars on HD broadcasts of 4:3 images with black bars. Available for analog 1080i, digital SD 16:9 and digital HD signals.

InputDTV
This input is compatible with most standard DTV and satellite receivers with component video (YPbPr) outputs. Compatible DTV signals are SDTV 480i/480p, and HDTV 1080i. All other DTV signals, such as 720p, need to be converted by the DTV receiver to one of the compatible signal types. Please check the DTV receiver specifications before connecting.
This input is compatible with some DTV receivers using RGB with "separate H and V sync". Compatible DTV signals are SDTV 480i, 480p, and HDTV 1080i. All other DTV signals, such as 720p, need to be converted by the DTV receiver to one of the compatible signal types. Industry standards for DTV RGB signals (systems, synchronization, timing, and signal strengths) are not currently established. These inputs will not be compatible with all DTV receivers that offer RGB, HV outputs. RGB, HV signals with less than 5 cables are not compatible.
If your DTV receiver offers both DTV component video signals and DTV RGB, HV signals, we suggest you use the DTV component video signals. Check the DTV receiver specifications before connecting.
Ok.

How do I change the format from 480i to 1080?

First, you need to verify that you have an HD source (720p, 1080i) connected to your M1-DA port or RGB component video ports.
S-Video and Composite video inputs are not capable of providing a 1080 signal. Then, in the menu, go to settings and then select "Sources". Verify that the source you want to use is checked and enabled. Once you exit the menu, perss source on the keypad until your selection shows up. If you have a good signal, it will sync up and display your program. To verify what signal you are watching, go back into the main menu and select "About" It will show which source you are using and what the format is.

Projector will not detect a Dell computer

Computers do not generally send an RGB signal, you should be connected via a VGA cable between the projector and the computer. The input menu on the projector should be set to VGA. The output of the computer should be equal or lower to the maximum resolution of the projector.

I have a wd-52525 mitsubishi and it is supossed to be 720p but when I turn it on it says its 480i. What part of the tv makes it 720p or 1080p? Please help.......Thanks Paul

You will have to use component inputs for above 480i, and use the FORMAT key on your remote control unit (lower panel in center) to change to whatever you want for resolution. Be sure you have your signal input set to one of the Component inputs via Setup or Net Command (or use Devices on the remote)

Hd outputs or connectins

The only HD input on that monitor that is true HD is the 15 pin VGA input connector. It can be set in the TV menu to be used as an RGB input OR a color difference component input (Y, RY, BY). You will need a 15 pin connector that breaks out into 3 sperate cables; the ones I've seen break out into 3 BNC connectors and then you have to use dapators to convert them to standard RCA pulgs for connection to most consumer devices.

Connecting component video YPbPr to TV with BNC port for RGBHV

No, this will not work. Picture will roll vertically. Originally they intended for HDTV to be red, green, blue, & Horizontal, Vertical sync. That changed after the first generation mitsubishi's.
In the service menu you can change the settings for the HDTV Input. Try that first by "Hitting menu button followed by 1259" or menu 1257. Let me know how that works for you, If you need a different code for service menu...contact me again and i will look it up for you. But the answer to your question is you can make it work or you can purchase a 300.00 box that will allow you to switch to that input thru..mitsubishi.tv.com
Good luck and keep me posted. GURU JAY
