Question about Washing Machines

I have a Kleenmaid KAW693W which is approx., 12 years old and hasn't been any problem till lately. What it has been doing is the agitator seperates from the spline and when taken out there is a bolt loose inside the agitator. I cannot separate the plastic "female" spline from the outer agitator to determine if I can fix myself. Does anyone know how to do this, or is it a job for an expert.

Good day,
My best suggestion, if the agitator can be removed from the machine is to take the assembly into an appliance parts house where they can supply you with the parts to repair it.
It is a Whirpool product and you should have no issues resolving it. A complete agitator is available if you want to go that route.

Here is a breakdown on the assembly if you want to check out an exploded view.
Go to this site and type in your model number and scroll to the closest model number available. It will show you the breakdown.

First of all the machine is a "Kleemaid" manufactured by Speedqueen USA. Even if the part is made by Whirlpool, I cannot locate any unit that looks like mine on the website suggested.

Secondly, did I not state that the agitator is seperates from the spline!

Thirdly, there appears no issue with the mechanicals below the spline protruding from below the bowl. All I need is some advice on re-attaching the agitator to this spline.

    My error,

I went with the model number. Seems it appears to be an Australian made Speed Queen.

I apologize. You are entitled to repost or wait for a relevent answer. I rarely make mistakes, but frankly this is a big one. Lesson learned. I wish you luck.

    Jack.

FYI it's an american made speedqueen, and secondly I had a repair man visit yesterday arfternoon and it is now fixed. The problem was the bolt that holds the inner plastic agitator connector had detached. He seperated the inner from the outer, re-connected this inner to the spline, and re-fitted the outer agitator...problem solved!!!

If u have the shaft bolt/nut off then the agitator just lifts off, sounds simple? well after 12 years the spline and the tub virtually become one piece, so somehow u must overcome this, you may never be able to remove it with destroying it. you can try using a heavy rubber mallet to hit the tub and try and break times grip, there just is no sure fire way.

As stated the agitator and plastic female spline have seperated from the metal spline. My problem is seperating the plastic female spline from the agitator. This will enable me to get to the loose bolt/nut inside the agitator. Sorry if I may have misled.

SAME ANSWER BASED ON AGE, WHY ARE U REPAIRING THIS, THE COST OF THE PARTS YOU MENTIONED WILL BE IN THE $100'S, REPLACE IT, TOP LOADERS GO FOR UNDER $400 FOR A BASIC MODEL

  • Vani Soter Aug 04, 2010

With all due respect, are you saying that because the agitator has seperated from the spline that it should be discarded and a new unit purchased! There appears nothing wrong with all the mechanicals below the bowl. What parts are you talking about?

How do i get the agitator out of a Kleenmaid kaw651

This answer comes 3+ years after your original question, mainly to clarify the first answer, which seems to mildly inflate the difficulty of repair.

At the top of the white plastic agitator is a small reservoir for extra detergent/rinse aid/whatever, it just clips on/off so easy to remove. Removing it is not 100% necessary, but protects it during the next stage.

The agitator is a 'push fit' over the main drive shaft, and 'drive bell', which it 'clips' over. Translate: 'It just pulls off'. Admittedly it may require a fair tug, but not exactly daunting or complicated, and certainly falls a little short of "strip down most of the unit..." ??

I would expect that is all you need to do to expose the area where the cord is tangled.

The enclosed image is from a 22 year old machine with an accumulation of dirt and rubbish underneath. Yuck!

How do you remove agitator in Kleenmaid KAW793?

The agitator just pulls off- they can be very tight!! You need to get your fingers under each side of agitator and pull up. Kleenmaid do have a special tool to make this easier, but I have always managed to pull them out by hand with a good firm sharp pull upwards. To refit, just put it over the drive bell ( the plastic thing underneath agitator) and give it bit of a whack to clip it on. Good luck!!

This may be a little late, but it may assist someone else. On my Kleenmaid top loader I found the agitator has clips at the bottom of agitator that clip over a drive hub at the bottom of the "tub" . All you have to do is gently prise it up using your fingers between the bottom of the agitator and the bottom of the tub.
