How do you get the top off a Kenmore Model # 22722? It looks like each corner is screwed down? I tried poping it open by inserting flathead screwdriver under lip on top left and right of front of machine,...

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.########) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Go to the section on the Sears site for the Control Panel and y9ou should see how the console is attached.

Also see the following :

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=131&osCsid=c2c2dfe011dc1574c1710a3d2121ca1d

Most Kenmore Top Load washers have endcaps on each side that simply snap off allowing access to a phillips head screw. Remove the screws, pull the console slightly forward and then up.

On sone washers, there are no removable endcaps. These washers use a clip under the ends of the console.

If you un-plug the washer and slip a thin putty knife between the cabinet and control panel where the clip is, the clip should release allowing you to tilt the control panel back.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Also see the following Whirlpool / Kenmore Service Manual.

I have a Kenmore washing machine model 23832100. During the spin cycle it has a high pitch whining sound.

First, see the Sears Parts site for your washer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?modelNumber=110.23832100

You'll see a number of diagrams of the component parts of the washer.

I can think of two possibilities. One is relatively easy to fix and the other may take a bit more work.

1. These washers use a Motor coupler between the motor and transmission. It consists of two plastic pieces with three prongs on each that mount on the motor and transmission. Between them is a rubber piece with six holes. Over time, the rubber piece may wear such that you may hear a whine especially during the spin cycle.

To check the motor coupler, see the following for how to gain access.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=135

2. These washers use a Clutch to transmit power to the tub for spinning. It's also possible that the bands on the clutch are slipping during the spin cycle.

In order to check the bands, you'll have to pull the transmission. \

It's not as difficult as it sounds.

See the following for how to remove the cabinet, pump, motor and transmission. YOU DON'T HAVE TO REMOVE THE TUB .

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=137

Check the clutch bands and if worn, Sears has a replacement band kit ($27.48). You don't have to pull the clutch off and or replace the entire clutch ($40.49)

Also see the Whirlpool / Kenmore service manual for these washers.

Top load direct drive 2-speed 3 combination will spin but not fast enough to remove water from clothes. all other functions are normal. THANKS

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

It sounds as if the clutch (which controls the spin cycle) is worn and cannot provide full power to the tub.

See the following for how to pull the cabinet, pump, motor and transmission.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=137

You don't have to remove the tub .

If the clutch bands are worn, Sears / Whirlpool have a rebuild kit. You wouldn't have to replace the entire clutch.

While you have the motor and transmission out, I'd also check the status of the Motor coupler.

Following is the Whirlpool / Kenmore service manual for top load direct drive washers that may also help.

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

I purchased a replacement gear case and clutch for my kenmore washer model 110.26914690. when i went to put the new one in the clutch goes up to the bottom of the brake and leaves the gear case about 3/4''...

Make sure that the transmission is aligned correctly.

I had the same problem and realized that I had it mounted wrong.

Also make sure that the plastic cam on the brake assembly is positioned on the right side of the clutch springs. If it's on the spring, you will be about 3/4" too low.

Make sure that the clutch is seated all the way on the transmission.

See the following illustrated description of how to pull the transmission (which you've already done) and the sears parts site for your washer.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=137

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?modelNumber=110.26914690

The following Whirlpool ; Kenmore service manual may also help.

Rubbing noise from agitator in top load kenmore washing machine

I can't find your model number on the Sears Parts Site:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

However.

If this is a basic top load, direct drive, Neutral Drain washer, the problem could point to the transmission "Agitate Cams".

See the following Whirlpool / Kenmore Service Manual for these washers.

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

The agitate cams are used to raise the agitate gear above the connecting rack during the spin cycle.

Following is a Whirlpool parts list for commercial versions of these washers although the consumer model uses the same part numbers.

http://shared.whirlpoolcorp.com/assets/pdfs/literature/Repair%20Part%20List%20-%20W10114743.pdf

See part # 62580 (About $15.00)

I had the same problem with gear grinding and this solved it.

See the following for how to pull the transmission. You don't have to remove the tub!!

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=137&osCsid=962131af4fd992034867327e32162166

Pull the transmission.

Remove the clutch (the spring holding the clutch to the spin pinion is a bear to replace.

Remove the 8 transmission screws carefully, the transmission is full (15 oz.) of 80-90 weight oil.

Remove the transmission cover.

Pull off the spin pinion.

Push down on the agitate spring and remove the spring clip. Note where is attaches to the main shaft.

The two plastic agitate cam parts pull right off. Don't lose the washer on top of the cams.

Replace the cams, washer, spring and clip, pinion, oil (assuming you drained the oil first), cover and clutch parts.

Line up the transmission so that the release cam on the brake drum will snap onto the clutch spring retaining clip and put all parts back in the washer.

The basic tools are screwdriver, small socket set with up to a 1/2" socket, vice grips or good pliers (to remove and replace clips)

It sounds like a complicated job but it really isn't and certainly less expensive that a $170 transmission.

Is there a spin clutch adjustment on a kenmore older model washing machine

This assumes that your washer is a top loading unit.

There isn't a clutch adjustment on Kenmore / Whirlpool top loader, direct drive washers.

Sears does have a clutch rebuild kit however.

See the Sears site:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

and enter your model number.

A list of sub-components should come up.

Click on the motor and clutch link and you should see parts for a complete clutch and the band and lining kit.

Replacing either requires removing the cabinet, agitators, pump, motor and transmission.

Then removing the clip that holds the clutch to the top of the transmission and either replacing the entire clutch or just the band and lining.
