Palsonic problems

Most remote problems are caused by the batteries dying. I suspect that in your case the remote is fine and device you zap with it has the problem. Some VCRs use a chip that has memory circuit, which is powered by a small capacitor called a memory retention capacitor. When these fail, the power to store the details of the channels is lost. I can put a picture of one of these capacitors up, you then just have to try and find it in the device!

My Sony VCR Model SLV-662HF will not accept cassettes. I am using a universal remote control. The VCR's display shows APC 71501 and 81508. Do these APC codes refer to the VCR or the All In One universal...

The codes are to program the universal remote control to communicate with the Sony VCR. Try programming the universal remote using one of these: 60000 60032 60033 60035
The acceptance of the cassettes may not be related to the use of a universal remote control. If the URC doesn't have the "equivalent" functionality of the VCR's original remote control, you may not be able to use the URC to perform the functions of the original remote control.

GE VG4020 constantly say's timer is set and won't record .

You can try the makers website for the book, they might have a free pdf of it. You will struggle without a remote though. Enter the model number into Google and see if you can find a remote for the model. If they are too expensive for the original, then get a good quality universal. But i would always recommend the original remote over universals.

My RCA Univeral remote will not program my Toshiba VCR. The remote works on other machines. What is the problem?

You need to be certain you are entering the correct code for the Toshiba. In your code book try them all for that brand. If it still doesn't work, it might be there's a problem with the remote sensor or detection circuit of the VCR.
If you don't have the codes/book post another question on here asking for Toshiba VCR Remote Codes.

Need universal remote

You should have no trouble getting a universal remote to work the basic functions: power, tape motion, etc. But you may have problems with advanced functions such as programming or accessing any special features the model may have. Often only the original remote has all the buttons needed. Universal remotes don't usually give complete control. If you're just looking to play tapes, you should be good with any basic universal remote that.

You are in a tough spot cause you probably keep the VCR to transfer old Tapes. FYI, did you know that DVD's have a shelf life of less than 10 years and VCR VHS tapes are good for 20 years plus? Keep your old tapes.

Write RCA and find out if you can get a new remote, it is basically the only solution.

Check with Ebay for a used one, you might get lucky.

If you have the instruction book that came with your remote you may find your VCR listed in it. If not, the book should give you the procedure to put the remote in the "search mode" which should help you make it operate the VCR.
