Question about Dewalt DW744S 10" Portable Table Saw with Stand

1 Answer

I have a Dewalt model 7730 radial arm saw. When the on button is pushed the motor starts off real slow as if it is under a bind or load but after a few seconds it picks up speed and seems to turn at full speed. What is the most likly cause and best course of action. THANKS Jim Adams

Most probably it is bit of timber on the bottom of the saw assembly...

1. switch off the saw
2. remove power plug
3. remove screw and clear protector assembly
4. remove centre panel (as to changing the blade)
5. remove blade and clean dust furrow below it from all debris
6. re-assemble in reverse order
7. mount safety protector assembly
7, connect power cord
8. start in shor burst and switch immediatelly off, after blade stop spinning, check blade assembly if not wobbly.

this should solve your problem.

I just acquired an AMF DeWalt radial arm saw - ser#255155. It is from the mid 1950's I think. Where can I get a manual for it?

You got a fabulous saw there. I picked one up last fall and refurbished it. I have several saws, and never thought I would need a radial arm saw, but I bought and read "How to Master the Radial Saw" by Wally Kunkel, who was also known as Mr. Sawdust, and I defnitely changed my mind. This isn't just a manual, it is way better than a manual. Follow Wally's instructions and you will have a machine that peforms precisely well. And you will know how to use it. I have a model MB, which is not all that powerful, but it is an amazing machine.

If the kickback arm you seek is the type that is a round bar with pointed fingers on the bottom, I had the same problem. (different model DeWalt) I gave up trying to find one, and finally just made one. It was pretty easy, and works very weill I bought a piece of steel rod (1/2 inch I think) a steel repair plate (from which I cut a pair of tear-drop shapes with a hacksaw and file) a 1/4 inch hex-head bolt (which had about 1 inch not threaded) and a 1/8 inch roll pin. I looked at various pictures on the web to determine the shape of the teardrops. I drilled a 1/4 hole in the 1/2 rod. I cut the threads off of the 1/4 bolt so it was still long enough to accept the 1/2 rod, the two teardrops, 2 washers and the 1/8 roll pin. Then I put an 1/8 hole in the bolt allowing enough clearance so that the teardrops would swing freely. It works like a champ. One minor flaw is that with only two of the teardrops (instead of several) and being separated by 1/2 inch, it would be possible to make a skinny enough rip that only one teardrop would contact the board being ripped, leaving the other peice unguarded.

I have a dewalt 740 radial arm saw and i was cutting wood (logs, small ones) with my radial arm saw and it jammed a few times, you could hear the motorand the the blade would start. the last time it...

Look for a reset switch/button on the motor. It may be popped out or it may just need pushing. If no reset, I would suspect the start capacitor has been damaged.

The start capacitor is usually under a tube-like cover on the outside of the motor. Disconnect the leads to this and test for its rated capacitance with a multimeter. If it fails the test with the meter, replace it.
