Please provide make and model of computer. Also look in your device manager to see if the driver is installed for the "Audio" section.

The display is showing "PROTECT" and nothing (no sound) seems to work. What might be the problem?

It's possible that some of your speaker wring has either become loose, damaged, or is shorting. Perhaps even a faulty speaker. Check everything before you turn it on again.

Cant get sound

Hello,

This can often be as simple as the speakers being unplugged, plugged into the wrong jacks, or powered off, so don't overlook the obvious and check to be sure. Also check the volume controls in Windows or your application to see that they are turned up and not muted. When you are sure the volume is turned up, the speakers have power and are plugged in, and the speaker configuration is correctly identified in Windows (some audio hardware uses a proprietary mixer control for this job), you need to verify whether the problem is with the speakers or the sound card. Connect different known-good speakers and see whether they work. If they don't, the issue is in the sound card-possibly the configuration of the card is incorrect or the card itself is defective. The first thing to try is clearing the ESCD in the BIOS Setup. This essentially forces the plug-and-play routines to reconfigure the system, which can resolve any conflicts. If this doesn't help, try removing and reinstalling the sound card drivers. Finally, if that doesn't help, physically remove and replace the card from the system. You might try replacing it first in the same slot and then in a different slot because timing issues can sometimes exist from one slot to the next. If that doesn't work, you must try replacing the card. If the sound "card" really isn't a card but is integrated into the motherboard, first try the ESCD reset and driver re installation. Then, if that doesn't work, you have to try disabling the integrated sound and perhaps installing a replacement card.

I hope one of these solutions help.

I just reistalled Windows XP and my speakers do not work. They were working fine b4 I reinstalled

you will need to set up your sound card and drivers again if your computer came with a motherboard disk the sound drivers could be on it
click start control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers select appropriate speakers or audio you will find 3 drop down lists make the necessary adjustments there or
click start control panel, administrive tools, computer management, device manager, sound video and game controllers could be a yellow question mark? right click to re-install drivers
if you dont have a motherboard disk you will need to download the sound drivers
hope this helps

I have a acer aspire 4520 and the speaker drivers doesnt show up on device manager and the sound doesnt work at all do i have to replace my speakers completely?

Well, I would try to 'restore' to an earlier time when the speakers did work, or 'recover' to factory settings so the computer can install the appropriate driver for your built in sound card on the laptop.

I had a system crash and have just recovered xp

CHECK YOUR SOUND CARD DRIVER FROM THE DEVICE MANAGER
IN THE COMPUTER PROPERTIES, IF DRIVER IS INSTALLED
CORRECTLY.
if the driver is not installed buy a universal xp driver cd and install your drivers.
IF THE SOUND DEVICE IS NOT AVAILABLE THEN UNPLUG YOUR SOUND CARD AND REPLUG IT
WELL.

My hp speakers wont work

Sample testing is usually a firmware built into the monitor amplifier ie the monitor is testing itself. you problem possibly lies with the computer sound system. Tell me more about this. Is it an 'On-board' sound card or separate PCI card. You can determine this by looking at the back of the computer- if all the connectors - sound- PS2 and USB are in the same panel - then it is an on-board system. If the sound is separate in one of the card position then it is a PCI card. The possibility is the sound system needs setting up- check your computer paperwork/manual and utilities disk for Audio drivers. Come back with some answers
