Question about Dolphin Maytronics Advantage

1 Answer

I need to change the tracks on my Dolphin pool cleaner. I have never taken it apart. Am I asking for trouble if I do this myself? Should I send it back to the manfacturer?

I just did this myself and no problem. You will need a short phillips head screwdriver (and small hands) to remove all the screws on the inside walls and pull the outside panels off. You will then see how the old tracks run on the wheels so you can put the new ones on the same way. I did one side at a time and that was easier. You may need a helper to replace the rollers in their slots once the new tracks are on; they are tight.

Your Dolphin pool cleaner wont start up...

A common problem, especially with 'newer' Maytronics Dolphin brand pool cleaners is that you put the unit in the pool, or even try to turn it on after a cleaning cycle while it is still in the pool, and to that point it has worked fine. You turn the power supply on and nothing happens. You turn it off and back on and still nothing. You leave it, even over night, same thing. What do you do?

While I cannot tell you why it does this (we have a theory but can not confirm it) what usually works is to follow these steps...

1) Unplug everything. Unplug the power supply from the outlet and the Dolphin from the power supply.

2) Let the whole thing sit a couple of minutes (we want to allow any capacitors to discharge).

3) Be sure the Dolphin is out of the water and sitting upside-down on a level surface (Tracks pointing skyward).

4) Reconnect the Dolphin to the power supply and the power supply to the outlet.

5) With the Dolphin still out of the water, perform a self-test. Simply turn on the Dolphin. Within about 15 seconds it should begin to move. The tracks will spin in both directions with and without the impeller motor running at the same time. It is not unusual for the tracks to rotate at different speeds during this test. The test will last for 30 - 45 seconds or so. If it goes on indefinitely, turn it off and contact us for further direction.

6) Assuming the unit has now worked to this point, you should be able to put it back in the water and it will return to normal operation from this point on.

If it still won't run; it runs a few moments and quits the self-test; or runs continuously, contact us thru the Dolphin service form along the bottom of our home page at www.arrowpools.net.

Dolphin works for about 5 minutes and then stops.

There are a few trouble shooting tips you can try for these automatic pool cleaners, but if none of these work, you will want to take it into a professional. The impeller could be blocked, causing it to shut off. Clean the impeller and look for any obstructions. You drive system could be catching. Clean the tracks and wheels. The other problem would be with your electrical system. This is where you need to take it to a pro.

Change tracks

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

Remove all twelve screws inside the case (6 per side), remove the handle screws and pull off the handle, then remove the side plates. Once these are out of the way, remove the old tracks and install the new ones. Reassemble in reverse and you are done.

My Maytronics Dolphin pool cleaner does not entire pool

Check to make sure that your power supply is in a position that it can reach all sides of the pool. It may be as simple as repositioning your power supply to make it more effective. Also, with these automatic pool cleaners, you need to make sure that the filter is off, because it being on can affect where the cleaner is able to go. Finally, make sure the handle is locked in a diagonal position.

Instruction for changing yellow track on pool cleaner

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

You remove the side plate by pulling the six screws inside the unit to expose the track. It is a bit of a challenge getting everything to line back up because the new tracks are stiff and tight but once you stretch them a little you can put them on and get the unit back together. If you would like a quote on the part (our web store is not quite finished yet) please use the contact button on our site found at www.arrowpools.net. As a repair center we can usually beat the prices of any of the aftermarket parts centers and if you have further need of technical assistance, we provide that too.

Dolphin pool cleaner stops after 3-5 minutes

It is usually either the power supply or the motor unit or both. None of those items are considered do-it-yourself repairs. For information on sending the unit in for service you can check with the manufacturer at www.maytronicsus.com or try us at www.arrowpools.net. If the unit is several years old and in need of repair and also the replacement of wear items such as brushes and/or tracks, it can be cost prohibitive to fix. It is helpful if you get the serial number from the units casing when you contact us or Maytronics so we have an idea of how old it is.

Yellow tracks keep coming off enough to stop the motion of the dolphin

Tracks are stretched out and need to be replaced. For a quote on do-it-yourself parts, contact us at www.arrowpools.net with your model and serial number.

My dolphin diagnostic cleaner for my below ground pool, just stopped after years. I went to turn it on yesterday and there is power to the power box as the light goes on, but the unit is not moving. I am...

If your unit has a fuse it will be on the back side of the power supply. If the light on the power supply switch is on, it will not be the fuse though.

Try turning the cleaner upside down on the deck and connect it as you otherwise would. Power it up and it should go through a self test process that takes about 40 seconds to complete. If it turns the tracks in both direction with and without the impeller turning, it is fine and will likley start working in the pool again.

If not, contact us through www.arrowpools.net and click on the FAQ and then Dolphin cleaner catagory. You can also use the Dolphin Serice button for information about sending it in for repair.

Dolphin will not climb up walls.

What is you pool surface? It may need climbing rings to assist it on 'slick' surfaces like fiberglass.

Try moving the location of where you set the power supply from use to use to allow it's cleaning patterns to shift around for better coverage.
