Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a Samsung 6167 and I have just replace the digital board. It was turning on but had the plaid picture. Then it got to where it would jsut have black screen & sound then just turn off by itself. Now when you plug the outlet in the wall there is immediate power supply to the tv & the lamp comes on. No response the on off switch on fromt of tv. All I get is the lamp light falsh & black screen will flicker as if it were trying to power up but just occassionally. I t is plugged to a surge protector as is all my other entertainment componenets. The tv is the only thing effected. This all happened while we were on vacation and their were a couple of storms but not to bad from what i am told. I am also aware there has been problems with this television as this ism y second round with this problem in five years of owning it.

Thanks for using FixYa. Assuming this to be a DLP TV, from what you have described the issue seems to be with the lamp going bad and should be replaced. However, if you have already replaced the lamp prior to replacing the Digital Board then the issue is with the ballast which is the power supply source for the lamp and should be replaced. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Solid red and green screen

Likely the "main" board that processes all digital information in and out of the set---Not likely to get fixed in the home or be a do it yourself repair.

You might want to call Samsung with the model number to see if this is a known issue in this model or not.

Screen looks like plaid wallpaper, now blue with no sound.

I think the picture showing on your TV is like wallpaper, the T-con or Main board defective may cause that problem. “now blue with no sound” it tells you 99% the problem on the main board.
The part# you can see a sticker on the PC board, the format is like BN99-99999C. cost approx $180.

I have a Samsung HLR5067W. I get green plaid

If you can afford it, replace the digital board, or the problem may be connections on the DNIE chip on the digital board, near the DVI connector at the back side of the board. Apply pressure to this chip. It is a BGA type (Ball Grid Array) that has pins underneath that contact points on the board. This is becoming common with high density ICs where external pin connections require larger size chips, tighter spacing, and geometries that are not efficient for the design of the chip. There are good reasons to use BGA, but they can be difficult to solder properly. Apparently, Samsung has had some issues with this chip. One solution is to try to re-flow the solder. I don't suggest this for anyone without the right equipment or tech expertise. It is very easy to heat the wrong parts or overheat the chip, board, or related parts. The board is encased in a metal housing with holes. Look for something that might fit between the chip and housing to put some pressure on the chip, like a bolt. Fit it in, then push the edges of the housing down to where you can put the screws holding it all together back in. There will be significant tension on the bolt, with the larger hex head end standing on the chip and the tip of the screw fitting against the metal housing (bolt standing on its head on top of the chip). Use a little pressure to get the screws back in, which will be good, as it will cause the housing like a large spring pushing down on the bolt, which will put a great deal of pressure on the chip. Simple solution if this is the problem.

Green Plaid lines on Samsung HLR5067wax/xaa-

These are the Tests that should be run to determine which board is bad.You should call a good TV Tech if you are not familiar with this TV.
- The DDP1011 on the DMD board has a feature to display internal test patterns.
- DNle, which is an end port in the digital board, has a feature to display internal test patterns.
- The analog board sends signals to ADV7402 on the digital board.
- The analog board is the first output and the digital board is the second one, followed by DMD, which is the final one.
■ Diagnosis By Module
1. Access Service Mode
(In Standby mode, press "Mute", "1", "8", "2" and "Power" to turn the screen on and enter service mode)
2. Check if there is an error in the DMD board
DDP1011 → TEST PATTERN → Press the right arrow key:
Options of FULL WHITE, BLACK, RED, GREEN and BLUE PATTERN are displayed on the screen.
If "Pattern" does not appear, this is a DMD board error.
3. Check if there is an error in the digital board before the DMD.
When the DMD board has been determined to be error free based on the test patterns:
FACTORY MODE → DNIe → TEST PATTERN normal display: no error in the digital board.
If "Pattern" does not appear, it may be from a DMD board or ATI error or there is an analog board malfunction.
4. Check if there is an error in the analog board.
Check for a power signal from the analog to the digital boards

Green Plaid then Vertical Lines, Failure of hard controls, Analog Board?

You are absolutely correct, When anyone complains of vertical lines or bars, the next step is to see if it happens on only digital inputs ( digital board ) , only analog inputs ( analog board ) , or both ( DMD board ) .

Analog board can be purchased at ,
