Hello,
I recently got an LG sata 20x DVD-RAM burner (specs are here) and have gotten 3 for 3 coasters out of it using both nero and alcohol 120%. It hasn't gotten past 8% completion and I've tried lowering the burn speed. I'm using verbatim DVD+R discs so I doubt it's the media. I've left if burning all night and wake up with it still where I last saw it and it will not shut-down without me doing a hard reset. I want to see if I can resolve this before I decide to send it back for a replacement and see if it's just a dud.

I have some trouble with LG CDRW and DVDRW, after past 2 days on line. Drives hanging, dont eject CD, and ejecting by hard way,
after this dont load neither mount.

My syslog sounds like:

hdd: status timeout: status=0xd0 { Busy }
ide: failed opcode was: unknown
hdd: drive not ready for command

If its hanging and won't let you shut down, I don't think its the drive, I think its the driver. I'm not sure if you are running XP or Vista or older. Please check here to see if you are using the correct driver for the drive you have. http://www.cdrom-drivers.com/companies/591.htm LG also has pretty good customer support, so I would call them since it is a new drive, they can work you through the problems or confirm if its a bad drive. //D
