Question about Telex Radio Communications

1 Answer

Hi, I am Kush Agarwal and I have been using the telex airman 850 for a while now. Just a couple of days back I noticed that the right side speaker of my headset is not working properly. The sound and the noise cancellation were both intermittent, but would come back with some wire adjustments. Looks like a loose connection some where. I am in India, and so its not really possible for me to send the headset to US for repairs. I would like to know if there are any service centres for telex in India, or maybe a do it myself fix. Kindly advise how I can fix it. Thanks in advance, Kush Agarwal.

Old question, but may be somebody else is experiencing the same issue. The earcup without the boom has a noise cancelling board, so it could be one of the wires that goes from one board to the other one. Gently take the earcup off and look at the 4 wires that are soldered on top (red, black, shield and white). If one of these is cut, the speaker/anr won't work. You will need a very small soldering iron to repair it (no more than 15 - 20 watts). Good luck, hope this helps ;)

SOURCE: There is no sound of the left side of the headset

Probably just need to manually reconnect the wires with a pair of tweezers. Work's for me sometimes. It's a pain in the a$$ though

Your headset can be used as stereo headphones or a wireless microphone for a bluetooth enabled device like a cell phone or a computer. When you plug the headphones into a device with the 3.5mm jack the headset automatically turns into stereo headphones and disables the microphone(headphone mode). It sounds like whatever device your headset is connected to via bluetooth is using the wireless microphone protocol where sound only comes through the one speaker and the microphone is on(microphone mode). The bluetooth protocol settings of your device may have been changed accidentally. You will need to go into the bluettoth settings of your device you are using with your headset and change the protocol. If it is a cell phone you will need to go into the bluetooth settings in the settings menu. If it is a computer your can adjust the bluetooth settings in the control panel.

You can download the pdf file of your instruction manual for your headset here

I hope this was helpful and let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks for using FixYa

Does not work with telex 850

Don't know if you are using the PA-97 adapter, it should work without any problems. I would check the potentiometer "gain" adjust on the microphone assembly. Hope this helps ;)

I have a telex airmen 850. I tried calling to see if it was still under warranty- with no help. It's $200 flat rate fee to ship it there... Is there somewhere else I can send it to be fixed? It was working...

Don't know why answers for different type of headsets shown up on a question about the Telex 850. Probably there is an issue with the cord. The cord has two shielded "double" wires on each pair. The ones for the mic are "white" and "light blue". May be one is cut preventing the mic to work. Look around for a local avionics shop, they should be able to fix it. Hope this helps ;)

Telex 56 to cobra 4 pin

Hi there!!

the yellw wire is not used on the microphone conector most of them are just cut and left in there loose as long as its not shorting out on anything!! The wiring for the telex 56 for your radio Cobra 29 LTD is as follows: PIN #1 Shield & Red, PIN #2 White, PIN #3 Blue, PIN #4 Black, Yellow wire not connected!!

If you notice when you have the connector apart on the back of the pins where the wires get soldered to the pins are numbered so you will know which pins they are or on the front side of the connector the pins are also marked wich numbers they are!! If you have any other questions please feel free to e-mail us at: bigdscbshop@hughes.net

Hi..
The rim is "ground" or the (-) side of the mic.
Find out which wire goes to ground or a (-) on a battery.
Solder that one back to the rim

Telex copyette 1-2-3 you can hear both sides at the same time

Clean the heads, oil the spindles.
Basic problem is the tape alignment is off a little. Could be caused by too much tape tension causing it to wander.

Have you had any kind of magnets close to the tv set? I had a brand new sanyo do the same thing. I had pulled the speaker box out of my truck and stood it up next to the tv (not thinking about where I put it). Turned it on a few hours later only to see a messed up picture. I moved the speaker box to get behind the tv and the picture got better. Moved the speaker box back to the truck and after a couple of days the picture was back to normal. These were 4 large magnets on these speakers. Maybe I helped some!
