Question about Garmin GPS

1 Answer

My Garmin GPS 96C unit "stays" on the Warning page. It will not clear off "Agree" and remains stuck there. It will not accept any commands including the quit command. I don't use it often, but this is the first time it has failed to respond. It is unusable. Please advise. C. D. Westbay

If you have not updated the software try to do so at the Garmin web page link below. if you have already done this update then the unit has a software issue or a defective RAM (Random Access Memory) chip and will need to be sent in to Garmin for repair or exchange, Garmin doesn't supply parts or repair manuals to the user, only Garmin can fix this or one of there authorized repair facilities.
Here is the lin to the download page for the software update of the model 96C

I downloaded version 2.90. Unit still remains on the Warning Page as stated above. I believe the flat rate charge to send this unit in is $175.00 which I feel is exorbitant. Any other suggestions?

I am sorry but u are going to need to get it repaired, the memory chip has failed or the operating system is corrupted, I know about Garmins pricing and I just replaced my GPS when it gave up, you might call this place and see if they can fix it for a better price.

How do I perform a Master Reset on a Garmin 605

This was described in a previous answer. I was cut and pasted. I hope that it is helpful to you!

In order to reset Garmin device or enter into maintenance mode, perform one of the following procedures:

Turn off Garmin device. Press down on bottom right corner of the touchscreen, and then power on the GPS unit. You should be prompted whether do you really want to erase all user data, or asked if do you really want to start up in maintenance mode. Press "Yes" to reset (warning: all data will be erased and lost, so backup before proceeding) or enter maintenance mode.
If entering maintenance mode, it's also possible to perform master reset by selecting clear user data option.

Once the device has been hard reset, you have to perform the set up procedure again upon start up. Note that erase user data command only delete data in the Garmin unit's memory that isn't accessible to the user when the unit is connected to computer. The command does not erase .gpi or .gpx files loaded (if your .gpx files contain any waypoints then they will automatically be imported into Favorites), nor will delete any MP3 music, JPG photos or any other files that have been stored on the GPS memory card.
Once the Garmin GPS unit is reseted, remember to place the device outside where there is a clear unobstructed view of the sky for 15 - 30 minutes in order for it to requires fix to GPS satellites.
Unfortunately, even if you perform master reset on Garmin GPS unit, it does not reset Garmin Lock security feature, which password-protect most Garmin electronic devices to deter theft. If you forget the PIN or password unlock code to unlock the Garmin unit, the best solution is to bring it to Garmin to get unlocked. "Secure Location" does not unlock a locked Garmin unit either as it's only a temporary fix as when it's turn on outside the security location, the device is locked again.

It boots to the screen where you agree to not use it in motion you press agree and it wont acknowledge the touch on the screen

Power off your Garmin 660 unit. Press on continuously the upper top left corner of screen and then power on the unit by pressing once on the Power button. You should be prompted to clear all user data, or asked if do you really want to start up in maintenance mode. Press "Yes" to reset (warning: all data will be erased and lost, so backup before proceeding) or enter maintenance mode.
To back up your Garmin.
  • From the garmin drive, copy '/Garmin/GPX/current.gpx' to a backup location on your computer.
  • After the hard reset, copy your backed up 'current.gpx' from your computer back to the '/Garmin/GPX/' folder on the Garmin, but be sure to rename it 'temp.gpx'.
  • On the next power cycle, the Favorites will be read from 'temp.gpx' into the non-user accessible memory area on the Garmin where they are actually stored

  • This should reset your Garmin then I would suggest updating your device at the Garmin site. I will attach a link.

Garmin is stuck on Warning screen --

Whenever these devices start acting up, I recommend performing a hard reset of your Gamin Nuvi 205. Also, use Garmin's WebUpdater service to make sure you have the latest software on your device.

    I hope that helps.

    Locked screen

WARNING: A reset will completely wipe the user information off the unit.

To reset the unit you will need to press the bottom right hand corner of your screen and hold in (relatively firmly) and then press and hold POWER, make sure you release the power button when the unit turns on and a message will appear asking if you wish to clear all user data - select YES to this.

This will completely wipe all data on your unit including almanac data (satellite information). Your unit would then need at least 45 minutes with clear view of the sky to update the almanac and re-acquire a GPS fix which will show your current position.

This will completely wipe all data on your unit including almanac data (satellite information).

Your unit would then need at least 20 minutes with clear view of the sky to update the almanac and reacquire.

To reset the unit you need to press the bottom right hand corner of your screen and hold in (relatively firmly) and then press and hold 'power'. You need to hold both for 30 seconds.
