Hello, as mentioned earlier it is positioned next to component number 523 b240 and may be a reverse polarity diode.

It is black in colour, 2 connections either side and has the capital letter B in gold stamped on with a gold line at one end.Its located 1cm to the right of the power jack socket.

I am looking for a part number if u can help.

Also, if only one u24 or u25 is blown, do u have to change bpth?

    Your helpis appreciated.

    Hope this helps

Hi, thanks for your comprehensive answer. Judging by what you have said its the idiot diode.

Can I remove this and bridge the connection?

Thanks for your help..will bother u no more.

    Thanks for your help.

One last question....can the idiot diode be removed and bridged across?

    Will bother you no more.

Sorry , we need more info on position of what you call 'B' ? Which component are you reffering to ? I don't know component "B" .

where is component B on the board ?

OK , here is best info I have as I have NO components in that area that are marked ? so , I do not see any components marked 523 or b240 , also I have NO components with a letter B on it. Comeponets that are black and like a small brick with a line across one end are either a diode or an electrloytic capacitor. On tomtom go 300 the component between power in socket and battery socket is BLACK and is simply a straight through filter. ie bothe neutral and live go straight through it. I can tell you that this very rarely blows. Usually it is only U24 and U25. Check also the small diode on the switch side but directly oposite the switch next to the 2 large diodes. ie. it is near to the power socket SOLDER SIDE of board. This small doide is the 'idiot diode' , revers polarity protection. I might add that most GO 300 boards I have here have very few component ID's screen printed on the PCB , theres hardly anything at all only the IC 'U' numbers and test points. This is why I am puzzled by your reference to 523 and b240. The 2 IC's U24 and U 25 dont always blow both , sometimes only one. look for signs of a small eruption on the IC or a tiny crack . Any brown mark or burning under the chip is also a sign. If you remove the IC's and have all the tracks intact you are very very lucky. GOOD LUCK.

OK , now i see . The 2 large diodes are marked B240 . ..... looking at the PCB with switches at the top and the 2 diodes B240 bottom left. To the left of those and very close is small ceramic capacitor and just above that is the diode. ( this diode is about same size as the small capacitor ). I have also found this diode blown on some boards. You can replace this with a easy to obtain IN414N . this is a standard diode with normal lead connections but is small enough to fit . DO NOT BRIDGE ACROSS it, because this is the reverse polarity diode, this will introduce a short circuit. TomTom might work with this diode removed ( no diode ) but I have never tried this .

Part Number and shop for U24 / U25 of a TomTom GO 300

U24 is TPS62000 and U25 is LTC1733EMSE . You don't say where in the world you are ? .....so I cannot advise you on where in your country to obtain those parts. They are available from MOST electronics compenent supplyers.
Its almost certain BOTH of those IC's will be blown even if one of them still looks ok.

Solution for fried TOMTOM

Please search for other posts regarding this from posted by "homemender" . You will have blown U24 and U25 IC's inside. Its not possible to replace these by normal soldering methods as the components are micro small .

My tomtom300 it not coming on,not even with car battery, please can u help please, its not swithing on.

try resetting the tomtom by inserting a small pin through the reset hole. look underneath. if it still won't come on then it's most likely 2 IC's are blown inside .... U24 and U25 .

Try resetting it by inserting a small pin or paper clip through the reset hole ( look underneath the tomtom ). if it wont reset then it's likely 2 IC's have blown inside ... U24 and U25.

Green Light / Dead Tomtom - Please help with component id

that diode is a reverse polarity protection diode. An 1N414 will do ( available for very very little from almost ALL electronic component suppliers.) If there is NOTHING ELSE WRONG then the tomtom will still work without this diode. Its not needed in normal operation anyway. All it does is cause the fuse to blow in the cigarette lighter plug if the polarity is accidently reversed. Therefore , with a correct supply , it does nothing !

You cannot get a replacement board. The IC has to be replaced , possibly 3. These are U24 , U25 , U26. You would need specialist tools and ability to do it yourself.
