Your Bernina can use other presser feet depending on the model. The Bernina Records (mechanical) can usually use other brand feet if you get an adapter, ie a short-shank Kenmore foot with a Bernina adapter will work on a Bernina. (I use a Big Foot with an adapter on my 930 Record. I can use the Big Foot on my 440QE electronic if I have the adapter for the new style.) Snap-on feet work well with an adapter on a Bernina. Adapters can be purchased on eBay, as well as snap-on kits. Just be sure you get the adapter that fits your Bernina (old-style vs new-style).

Newer Berninas can also use other feet with an adapter. However, if you have the newer 9mm Bernina, you may have more difficulty since the 5mm feet will create more challenges (and probably broken needles!).

HOWEVER, authentic Bernina presser feet generally are not interchangeable with other brand machines, ie Singer, Janome, etc.

Hi I have Bernina Activa,
I have the snap on foot attachment also, but most other generic snap on feet don't fit as the needle is in the wrong position
(see below link for which ones work)
+also bought the low shank adapter -this fits some of my very old singer feet! Including a bias binder and rolled hem feet

The Bernina feet are very good though $$$,
so its good to be able to use or try other specialty feet esp if its only for one project!
You could join a sewing group and swap also!

I found these links helpful too:-

Yes. Bernina feet aren't interchangeable with other machines and non-Bernina feet won't fit a Bernina. Sorry.

Bernina service manual for Virtuosa 160

Here is a link to a sewing machine part company where you can order the manual. It is $19, but I think well worth it if you have the machine. Good luck! That is a nice little machine. http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/instruction-manual-bernina-virtuosa-160.aspx

I turned off my machine to change the pressure foot on my Bernina Virtuosa 160. The pressure foot number does not change on the display. Is there something I need to do to change the number?

The machine Knows the foot number buy the small glass part of the foot just on the upper right side of the foot. Check to see if that is not damaged and clean. Also check the sensor on the machine just above the foot for not damage and clean. If that is good make sure your foot is paralel with the stitch plate. Do this buy putting a single hole foot on your machine and make sure the needle is right in the center. If this does not work you will need to take it in. May be a bad sensor or unpulged but that is rare.
Also not all bernina feed have this foot sensor, if this is the case it will not read it
hope this helps

I have a Bernina Virtuosa so not the same machine - but this may help. There is an icon on the front of the machine - it is a needlepoint pointing at a dot in an oval - there are arrow buttons on either side. These move the needle left or right of center and it shows on LED screen. I checked mine just now and if you turn machine off and on it resets to center automatically. Hope this helps - Happy Sewing!!

Bernina Buttonhole foot #3A

Hi, you must have an 1130S which means it could also be a circuitboard issue. If the LED/LCD light for the buttonholer does not flash you either need a new RET-Print (circuitboard) or a new buttonhole foot. Sorry to say that you DO more than likely need a new buttonhole foot according to my manual on this machine. No way to repair the foot that I know of.
You should bring the machine in and try it first.
Guess not all news is good news. Sorry.
