Question about Kenmore Dryers
If you are feeling any heat at all when you place your hand by the air vent in the back, your element is at least partially working. We must determine if your model has a single or double element. If you have a double, perhaps only one side is working. To determine this, I will need the model number located under the lid or on the back of the unit.
If you have NO hot or warm air, it may be your element or the thermal fuse. Need model number.
But before we do that...
The most common cause of this is just a simple build up of lint. No matter how well you clean the lint filter during use, lint does build up and may require cleaning every few years or so. If you do have some warm or hot air and it seems to take two cycles to dry your clothes, try these simple checks (unplug dryer):
1. Insure that your vent hose is not clogged with lint. Unhook it on both ends and see if you can see through it. If there is a blockage, remove lint, reconnect and you should be fine. 2. Insure that the flaps on the vent outside of your house are free of lint and can open and close freely. If they are upstructed, clean. If they do not open or are bent, you may need to replace the vent. 3. Pull out your lint screen and see what you see? Lint build up? Take a coat hanger and bend it to stick into the lint trap well. Can you pull out any lint? Pull out as much as you can. Also look into the vent on the back...is there lint inside? Use your hanger. This may involve opening the top of the unit, or pulling off the front to clean. But let's get the model number before you get that far.
Write me back with model number or let me know if cleaning the hose and/or vent help. I look forward to assisting you.
