Dryer makes a squeeking noise when starting up. It goes away after a short time. It seems to be drying the clothes. well. It's a Kenmore Model 110-74912200.

A lot a times it is just a loose or warn out belt. Unplug dryer, gently pull out dryer to access back, Open up back panel, normally is just Philips screw driver. and then check belt, if it is loose, sometime replacing belt is best. However before we panic and thinking it is the bearing on the motor that turns the drum via the belt. Buy some belt dressing that is designed for belts/dryer. Almost any appliance store will carry this spray. If belt is good shape, just try spraying a little of the belt dressing on the pulley area and see if this continues, if it does the main bearing is getting worn out on the motor. Lets not talk about that right now, as i believe the belt dressing will solve this squeak, sense it is still at this point operating properly. I hope this helps you, best regards , Mike from Fixya.

When drying I hear a sound like a loose fan belt? What can I do to check to see if the belt is loose?

you will have to disassembly the front panel of the dryer and check you drom belt and rollers. Unplug machine open door remove screws and with a screw drive gently pry up on each top corner. Good Luck Tim

I have a maytag neptune dryer and the drum is loose how do i tighten it?

Why do you say that the drum is loose? Are you able to wobble it by hand? If so, that is evidence of a bad roller that the drum sits on.

If the drum doesn't turn as fast as it did, that is probably a loose belt, which would indicate that the belt tensioner is not working or belt has jumped the tensioner.

Dryer making funny noise and took top off and there is only one belt on tumbler how many belts is there supposed to be?

they generaly only have one belt and I've never seen a two belted drum on a dryer. The belt could be getting old/loose and this will make noise. As long as the noise is not loud and the dryer is still working I would not worry. If the belt is old and getting loose it would not be too expensive to buy a new belt. Good luck

Loose belt

No, you have an idler pulley which keep tension on the belt. You may have a problem with the idler pully or the belt may be worn or the drive pully slipping.

Drum turns very slowly,,makes banging noise

You have something in the path of the belt or the belt has come loose. The motor turning the belt may be loose on the bracket. You can slide the motor back some to tighten it.

Belt too loose

Are you sure you have the belt routed correctly? You can verify by going to and clicking on the "Repair Help" link at the top of the page. On the following page is a link entitled "Dryer Belt Diagrams" under the "Special Features" section. You will need to view diagram E for Maytag. NOTE: There is a tension spring on your idler. Make sure the tension spring has not come loose or fallen off. I hope this helps you. If you have questions, please let me know.

there should be a belt tensioning pulley or the motor should move in order to tighten the belt.

Replace belt

A belt replacement problem solution has been posted above. However, to install a new belt the top and back of the machine will have to be removed so that the belt can be slipped off the back of the drum.

Before replacing the belt, I recommend checking the tensioner pulley that is located at the back of the dryer motor. The tensioner pulley is a plastic pulley with a spring attached. Your belt may have come off the tensioner pulley which would mean that it is too loose to drive the drum.

Hope this helps
