Question about Computers & Internet

2 Answers

I'm having trouble finding a reliable software to download that will enable me to play youtube/slacker/pandora (non- itunes music) on my Mac and listen through my stereo using my Airport Express, seemlessly. Any direction would be much appreciated! I'm also new to itunes and Mac so it's been more difficult but so far I can't play music through the airport express unless its in itunes and to get it into itunes it has to be saved and brought over (can't stream from sites?). Thanks,

    Thanks for the solution man.
It doesn't quite do what I'm shooting for (not sure I can).
Is there anything that will enable me to directly play off of streaming sites (including youtube, hulu, pandora...) and hear the audio on another speaker system (living room) that is set up via the airport express/wireless network setup described above?
Itunes works great, but to view the streaming sites I'd have to save them and play them through itunes- how would you stream live then?

I guess the trouble is with the browser.....you probably use a browser that do not have the add on necessary for playing those videos...so ...my suggestion is to install another additional browser like Mozilla Firefox for Mac..and see if with this one you see the videos directly on the site ..
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/in...
after installing the browser see what it says ..usually if it needs an add on like adobe flash player it asks for it ..and on the video screen you will see that says ...additional software required...please install........
anyway ..Install this flash player add on ..and see if it does the job ...probably this is the one you need and your own browser will work after ..

Thanks for the detailed (fast) responses bud!
So after that when I go to youtube for instance, is there something that I have to select to have it play on the other speakers?
For example, I followed your suggestions and then played a video and it plays on the Mac speakers. But at the same time I still have Itunes playing over the Airport express in the next room. ...just wish I could get the audio from the streaming sites to play there too.
    ?

wow, Im not sure I understand the exact connection that you have with that speakers..but if you connect the Mac to the speakers...no matter how...wireless or cable ...or just plug them in the audio exit..or in the headset place ..they should work ..Maybe I wasnt paying attention on what you said that the speakers are ...I kinda concentrated to the youtube stuff..But if it plays in the Mac speakers..you should be able to make a cable or wireless connection to the others..If the computer's speakers are on a 3.5 jack plug ..and those are too .than all you have to get is a double plug adapter ..and plug them simultaneous ..cause if you plug them into the head set plug ..it will shut down the Mac speakers...

I see that you use airport ...express...I assume this is some kinda wireless..Im not that familiar with it ..cause iM specialized in Microsoft ....but the idea is if Itunes works ..this should work too ..cause the signal is on the same sound card..so ..shut down Itunes..and see if ti works..maybe you didnt hear them cause of the difference of the volume .
The Idea is if you have sound from a player into this machine ..than you have from the other too ..cause they are just players ..no matter if it is an installed one or a flash one on the browser...

  • samsunjek Aug 03, 2010

itunes allows you to select where to play from on bottom right (computer vs. airport express).
The airport express is linked to the Mac as a wireless connection through the network so it works live.
When you play the other sites, it just defaults to the computer speakers.

  • Catalin Turcu
    Catalin Turcu Aug 03, 2010

I see..than you have to manually select connection from the airport software (driver ) into teh computer ..it has to have something not depending on the Itune..cause the connection is made with the computer ..it just the fact that they are all made by Mackintosh that makes them have this bond ...but if you didnt had the itune installed at all you should still had to be capable to make the connection from the airport express driver ..I mean the software that manage it ..

  • samsunjek Aug 03, 2010

    I suppose- but I don't know how.
You rock man and I appreciate the feedback, but sounds like I need to connect w/ a mac guy huh?

  • Catalin Turcu
    Catalin Turcu Aug 03, 2010

just look at the programs and see the program for the airport ..and switch the streaming on ..cause it is just a matter of pairing like in blue tooth or like a connection in wireless....even better ..take a better look on the keyboard cause Mac usually have stuff like that on the keyboard..

just look in the system preferences..on network ..and turn it on ...or in the menu
this have to be the steps..

    1. From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.

    2. From the View menu, choose Network.

    3. In the list of available network connections, select AirPort.

    4. turn it on ...enable it ..

Here you have a page for a better understanding ...fact being that you are new with mac you may be interested to understand the system a little..

  • samsunjek Aug 03, 2010

Airport express only recognizes the itunes for streaming.
I've read that site up and down and nothing about alternate sources.
I set up the ae myself and used the steps you outlined.

  • samsunjek Aug 03, 2010

Just reread your last post and made sure.
...those are the correct steps for selecting airport express as the output for your itunes.
How do you do that for other sites though?

  • Catalin Turcu
    Catalin Turcu Aug 03, 2010

It is not supposed to be just for Itune ...but for the sound in general ...so ..just try to enable it ..than go to system preferences and see into the sound area if it has anything there ..

  • samsunjek Aug 03, 2010

    Definitely ran thought that.

  • Catalin Turcu
    Catalin Turcu Aug 03, 2010

By the way ..if nothing will work ..and you can not seam to get in a end with thi s..if the audio system has an input ..just wire it ..and thats all ..and you will have it ..but Im sure that this is supposed to work no matter what ..try it to enable the itunes ..so that the connection is made...but instead of playing anything in itunes..just open the other stuff ..cause I dont think it matters what kinda sound is transmitted as long as it is connected..so ..keep the itunes open ..but not playing ..just connected..and play from the site ..

Hi,
Welcome to Fixya community.

Please try download and Install MacTube Player to play Youtube video or music... Let me know the result please...

Also to play the music in stereo receiver please follow below steps.

  1. Plug in the Apple AirPort Express into a power outlet near the stereo. Connect an audio cable from the audio port on the AirPort Express to the audio in port on your stereo. If your stereo has a different sized audio port than the 3.5 mm one on the AirPort Express, you will need to use an adapter to connect it.
  2. Plug in an ethernet cable from the AirPort Express to your computer or wireless router for a wired connection. For a wireless connection, connect the AirPort Express to your existing home network, or use a computer with a wireless network adapter to connect directly to the AirPort Express.
  3. Connect to the AirPort Express with your computer as directed in the manual to run the setup with the AirPort utility. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  4. Open iTunes and play the music to your stereo. There should be a pop up in the lower right corner after you run the Airport utility.
Let me know how far you could able to reach in a result. Our expert friends are here anytime to solve your issue.

Thanks once again for joining us.

Have a good day.

I had actually already managed to setup playing music from itunes through my home stereo (via wireless router and Airport Express). Pretty much just as you outlined! Those were awesome instructions though. The part I can't do is playing non-itunes music through that setup.

I just tried mactube palyer but it's not playing volume through the stereo only on the computer.

    Any thoughts or alternatives?

No sound with pandora or ipod using usb cable

  • 1 Activate your iPhone with a licensed wireless service carrier, and then register it with the iTunes network.
  • 2 Download audio files from iTunes. You can do this one of two ways. You can download music, podcasts, audiobooks and videos using the iTunes Store on your phone, or download them using the iTunes Store on your home computer. You must have an active account, which requires a credit card, to purchase audio files.

Why wont this sync with my itunes library?

Hi, Is the SanDisk Sansa Fuze compatible with iTunes? In some ways, it is. Unfortunately, the Sansa Fuze and iTunes don't always play nice together. You'll have to get a few workarounds to make these two sync together.

The SanDisk Sansa Fuze and iTunes

The SanDisk Sansa Fuze is natively a Windows product. You should be able to sync it with Windows Media Player automatically. However, not everyone owns a Windows PC and even if they do, they might store more music in their iTunes library.

If this is the case for you, you might find it helpful to be able to sync your Sansa Fuze with your iTunes music library. Bear in mind that you won't be able to sync apps, games or any other iTunes products that are not formatted for use on a Sansa Fuze.
Using iTunes with the Sansa Fuze

So, is the SanDisk Sansa Fuze compatible with iTunes? If you download the right software, it is. Apple offers a free download that works with many other non-iPod MP3 players, Sansa Fuze included.

Unfortunately, this product only runs on a Mac operating system. However, if you own a Mac, this is great news because it means you can still use your Fuze without buying a Windows PC.

If you use a Windows PC and want to transfer your iTunes music to the Fuze, don't lose hope - there's a way to do that, too.
Syncing the Sansa Fuze with iTunes

If you're using a Mac, visit this link for Apple's free software download. It comes directly from Apple, so you can be assured that it's spyware-free.

Install the software on your Mac. You need Mac OS X 10.4 or higher as well as iTunes version 8 or higher.

Plug your Sansa Fuze into the Mac and wait for the software to open. You should see a listing of your iTunes music library pop open in a window. You're then given the option to sync as many songs as possible onto your Fuze.

The syncing process is similar to syncing an iPod. Don't unplug the device until it's finished.
Syncing the iTunes Library in Windows

You can sync your Sansa Fuze with iTunes using a script called the Automator, found here. Once downloaded, open the script under your "Downloads" folder on your "C:" drive and find a string of characters that looks like this: "/Users/richard/Music/*.mp3".

Replace the name "Richard" with your own username. Don't change anything else. Select "File," "Save" from the menu.

Select the Automator icon with the right click button on your mouse and choose "Open with," "Automator Runner." If working properly, this should automatically sync the music from iTunes with your Sansa Fuze.

If that doesn't work, go into your iTunes library and highlight any DRM-protected tracks that you purchased from iTunes. Right-click and select "Make MP3 Version." These should now be compatible with the Automator.

This sounds like more or less of a "hack" than a solution, but this might be the only way to sync music from iTunes to your Fuze using Windows. If all else fails, make MP3 versions of the songs as shown above, then navigate to your iTunes folder where those files are stored. Then drag and drop these into Windows Media Player, where they should sync right onto your Fuze.

Hope that helps..
