My Western digital My Book WD5000F032 is a 500gb External Hard Drive. I use to store, pics and movies. I did not back them up anywhere and are important. 1. I turned My Hard Drive off because my computer started trying to boot of it. 2. After trying to trun it back on it start no reading the drive. 3. I attempted rebooting my system, the hard drive, and nothing is working 4. I checked the Safely Remove Hardware and it displayed the Hard drive as being connected to the L: Drive. 5. Kept tring to get the Hard Drive to read, i would turn it on and off and the drive would not connect. The blue ring on the hard drive would be solid. It would hear a i would hear a dut dut like it had connected but still no drive would display. 6. I have tryed to locate a driver update, but nove no luck, I have also attempted to connect to a different usb port, nothing. I have also attempted to use a different cable, nothing. I have attempted a different PC, Windows 7 laptop, nothing. At times the Blue ring starts to spin as if it is connected but I still can not locate a drive for it. 7. One more thing when the hard drive is on and i boot the pc, blue ring is spinning as if the system is searching for boot files. I need help.

Well it's good that you checked all of that, nice job always unplug from your PC when done and turn off ok this a must other wise they will tend to mess up like this, but try this ok go to (my computer) when its pluged in and on if you don't see it, then go to (control panel) and into the (admin tools) and then to (computer management) then to (device manager) look under drives and rightclick on your exturnal and go to properties and do an (update driver) if this fails, do a (disk cleanup) on your all drive connected check all boxes and run it. next do a defrag right after that and defrag all devices as well and then unplug your device restart PC and plug back in and see if it will rec. it and if it does go in to it and do the same thing a disk cleanup on it it's self and a defrag again and that should work if not comment back to me ok good luck and have a nice day the fixist !!!

If you plan to store movies on the HD, better buying a 1TB hard drive. WD Mybook is one of the best external HD.

I can't store movies,photos or videos in my external hard drive


I returned the product to the store and got my money back.
I will never buy a WD product again.

try to right click on "My Computer"->Manage-> Disk Mng.
Then try to see if you can recognize you this disk.
maybe you just need to change the letter or format it.
