We need to determine if you have a magnetic switch or a manual switch.
1. Do you see a finger-like object, or tab, sticking out from the underside of your lid and a hole in the body of the washer where that tab should insert to connect with the switch? If so:
1. insure the tab is there, not broken off or shortened, and that it has something within the small hold to connect with, a lever of some sort. Try sticking a screwdriver in the hole and starting your washer to start operation. If it works, you may need to replace the tab.
2. If you have a magnetic switch, you won't see a hole, but you should see a white, rectangular magnet case tucked under the inside of the door. When you close the door, you should hear a slight "click". If you don't, you may have a bad lid switch to replace. Or,
3. Insure your door is straight and not twisted, bent or warped and is allowing the door to properly sit on the switch. One common thing that happens is that something heavy has been set on the lid and it has popped inward, leaving it somewhat concave in the middle, raising the edges of the lid and not allowing the switch to connect. Simply push or tap the middle of the door from the inside and pop it back into shape. This should give the lid a bit of a hump on the outside and bring the edges and the switch parts down and together.
For further trouble-shooting, I'm going to need the make and model number. The make should be located on the console or top. The model number will be located on the inside of the lid or on the back of the unit

Tthe washing machine stops working after about 5 minutes of washing sometimes closing the lid a little hard seems to bring it back to the washing cycle. This has happened several times why is it happening?

it may be that the lid switch is going bad. raise the lid and look for a button that gets pressed in when the lid closes. if you can push in on the switch with a small screwdriver or butter knife and the machine runs, then that is your problem. closing the lid had sounds like a switch problem

Kenmore model 119 24622300 Heavy duty 2 speed washing machine....The machine was in mid wash cycle and completely stopped. Although we have emptied the clothes and water out manually (it would not drain),...

the first three is 110 on your model number, not 119.lift the lid up around two inches and close it down,do this a few times,if you don't hear a clicking sound the lid switch is broken, part number 3949238.if that's ok when the washer is in spin does the motor run,if it does you broke the motor coupling, this is located behind the motor, let me know what you find and if you could answer the questions i asked i can help you out better

The small metal piece on the lid rusted and broke away so now even when the lid of the washing machine is closed, the machine won't start because ti can't detect the lid as closed. What can I do?

You can bypass the switch by jambing something in there and this will allow it to spin with the lid open or closed but please keep the lid closed at all times while washing.

Says lid and won't work

Check the lid switch... sometimes if something heavy or someone sits on the lid, it can tweak it just enough so the lid switch loses contact and will keep the machine from turning on. You can sometimes bend the lid back. Check the lid switch by sticking a credit card between the lid and the switch with the lid closed... does that solve it? let me know.. KEN

Washer will not pass wash cycle...Will not Drain

Nightshade, in most cases, no spin, no drain is a lid switch problem. If you advance the timer to the spin position does it spin? If the machine is agitating you can rule out the coupler. If you are sure that it is not a lid switch problem, then you are probably looking at a bad back.
