Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have an Amana Washing machine model LW8203W. It leaks after washing. I removed a side panel and determined that the hoses and connections were good. The leak seems to be coming from the area of the pump. There is water and some greasy black residue present. My questions are, 1. Can I purchase a pump seperate from the motor. 2. How far down do I have to strip the machine to get to the pump. Thanks, Ken Winter

Pump is available separately.  should run you around 40 dollars or so.  only a couple of screws holding it on plus the 2 hose clamps.  keep bucket ready for when you disconnect the hoses. always water left in there.  make sure you put the hoses back on the port they came off of or get ready to do the backstroke..

Leaking washing machine

It is so common that the drain leaks in many ways andis the most problematic fault in a washing machine. In all occasions it isimportant that your observation is most important and so is vital to theidentification /rectification and solution. If you have noticed that water hasleaked then as the drain hose pump/valve and fittings are located on theunderside of the machine it is important that you look for possible leaks here.In some cases the drain hose would be clogged at the drain end to outlet of thehouse and so there will be back flushing resulting in overflow to the outside. Also the drain pump/valve can be clogged or the drain hose clamps can be looseon the grip which can all cause the leak to occur. Removing and cleaning thedrain pump/valve, tightening of the hose is also very important. Also water canleak if there are gaps on the front door gaskets and must be checked but thiswill happen only during the cycle and not on the drain cycle end.Tips for leak: http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/washing-machines/a/7/1461/do-you-have-a-leaky-washing-machine.html Check for tips on the link below to identify parts andremoval:http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/washing-machines/a/7

Looking for leak!

Before you disassemble the inside of the machine, tip it up and see if the leak is coming from the drain pump, diverter valve, or hoses. You may be able to fix it from the bottom, just don't let the machine fall on you. For a exploded view of your machine look at Sears parts on line. Good luck and i hope this helps.

I have an 8 year old top loading Amana washing machine with a stainless steel tub. Water drips out of the bottom of the machine. It does not appear to be leaking from any of the external connection,...

It might be the drain hose coming from the drum . Might have come loose. This does happen. And i would repair it before it comes off totally. These machines are pretty easy to repair. The top is hinged in the back so you will need a screw drver to pry the top open and you will see a bolt on both sides of the front panel once those are off lift the front upward and it should come off. You will see all the internal components most of them. Check all the hose and if so run the machine and trace the leak. But never poke around while it is running. When you find the leak? repair it. You can use automotive radiator hose clamps to replace the Factory spring junk clamps.
Hope this helps.

Leaks behind the ciment cast

Hi,

If I got the issue correct the washing machine is leaking specially from the in front of your top loading washing machine.

Leaking water from a washing machine usually comes from hoses or connections. Be sure that water appearing to be a leak isn’t drain water from a backed-up standpipe. To prevent potential flood damage, which can occur if washing machine supply hoses burst, be sure to install “no-burst” stainless-steel mesh hoses and lever-type shutoff valves, as shown below. With these, you can easily turn off the levers for both hot and cold water between wash days.

1) Check the fittings where the hoses connect to the faucets and to the back of the washing machine. Also look for worn or leaky hoses. Tighten couplings or hose clamps if needed, or replace the hoses altogether. Be sure to turn the water off before removing the hoses, and drain them into a bucket after disconnecting them.

2) Determine whether the machine is overwashing, which can cause the machine to overflow. Reduce suds by pouring 1/2 cup white vinegar in 1 quart water into the washer. Then switch to either less detergent or a low-washing variety.

3) The machine may have a faulty basket gasket or tub seal and bearing that must be replaced; in this case, call an appliance repair person.

The water ran out onto the floor after the wash cycle on lw7503w2

remove the front panel. You will see two hoses connect to a water pump. The leak can be from lose hoses or leaky pump.

Amana lw8203w leaking

Your LW8203W is at least 12 years old. It is leaking from the tub seal, Your machine needs to be rebuilt or replaced.

If you have it rebuilt I would also put in a new belt, pump, brake pads, upper tub bearing and the tub seal it needs.

Call and authorized Speed Queen or Amana dealership and ask for a price quote over the phone. Then price out a new machine.

Your choice.
