Wow..hide and seek, and beetles on the disk..a truly great opportunity for greatness... me thinks that you are suffering from a firmware or driver problem..or you may have the files set for read only, on the main control panel

Export saved emails from toughdrive, import to my laptop

A little more information. What email program are you using Outlook express? Outlook?

If you are using outlook express open it. go to File / Import / Messages.

select the type of program the emails are in when you saved them to the external harddrive.
click next select import mail from OE6 or whichever you had from above. and click ok.  then click browse. and find the drive the email was saved on. then click the folder you have the emails saved in. and click ok. ( it may be easier to save the email folder to your desktop of your computer and just browse to your desktop).

click next select your folder you want the emails to go to and finish the emails will be imported

How to delete the files store in the Network Drive

All external drives will show up in your Windows Explorer.

Hit the "Windows + E" key to open explorer. Click on your computer, and on the right side, you should see all your drives. Just browse to the file and delete it, like you would any other file on a local drive. However, if you do not have administrative rights to the file or folder or drive, you may not be able to remove the files.

My Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive ("HMNHD") used to work perfectly, until I reset my Dell Inspiron 1545 and installed Windows 7 to upgrade it from Vista. I backed up all my files, program data,...

First and the foremost thing is that when u backup any info to an external hard drive try only back up the data that u have saved. Coz application cannot be saved if done they cannot be retrived. Now if those files are asking for permissions then right click on the file - properties - then on the securities - click on add - then Under Enter the object names to seclect type in Everyone then click on Check Name now Everyone will come in Underlined - click on OK - U will come back to properties tab then on top click Everyone - And under Permissions for everyone Under Full Control Check ALLOW - Then OK
this should fix the issue.
If this does not helps, since u have transfered all the data back to the PC why not format the External Hard Drive. Connect the Drive right click on it the see it teh format option is there or not if present then foprmat it.

But i think the first method will solve your problem

The drive deleted files I had moved from my pc to the backup folder in the network hard drive. The free space on the drive has not changed since that happened, so I'm hoping that they have not been...

if you can acces your backup folder then from there if not you will need a program (get data back, pandora recovery, handy recovery,so on) to retrieve your deleted files so there is hope to recover them.

Need jumper settings for both hard drives. PCb board has been replaced. Cannot rememebr the orgional settings.

Master (M) on the harddrive that came with the computer, Slave, (S, or SL), on the 2nd harddrive.

Don't see M, S, and CS, on the label of the harddrive? (CS is Cable Select)
Sometimes it's right on the edge, where the 40 pin flat ribbon cable plugs in. It will be letters raised in the plastic, of the harddrive body.

To find where to set the jumpers for these harddrives, I suggest you look at the label. Since you had the Printed Circuit board replaced, I'm guessing you know who made it, and what the model number is.

Some harddrive manufacturers,
1.Western Digital
2.Maxtor, (Maxtor is owned by Seagate now)
3.Seagate
4.Hitachi
5.NEC (No longer in business)
6.Quantum, (sold out to Maxtor)

Here are three links that are videos, and may help with setting jumpers, and setting up those IDE harddrives. (IDE is also referred to as EIDE, ATA, and PATA)
(If you have SATA harddrives, do not touch the jumpers, if any are present! These are for the factory. With a SATA harddrive, you can plug it/them, into ANY available SATA header, {Connector}, on the motherboard. Doesn't matter!)
