With the RGB you have to run seperate audio ,I think you have ran the seperate cables for the sound but they are in the wrong place.try changing the RW from the DVR to the TV and you should get sound from them.The unfortunate truth about the HDMI is that the HDMI format has a problem effectivly communicating between components.I am a Directv certified High Definition technition and %50 of the TV's that I connect the HDMI to will not receive the signal.One trick that I have found that works is to make sure you have a picture on the RGB then connect the HDMI.Once you have these connected ,turn your TV off and unplug the power cord from the DVR for 30 sec then plug the DVR in and wait 5 minutes for it to power up then turn your TV on and switch to your HDMI input.This method sometimes works to "Jumpstart" the HDMI input on the TV .There is no guarantee that this will work but is sounds like for now this is your only option,GOOD LUCK.

The Motorola HD-DVRs are notorious for having problems when connected to a receiver. This is because your HD-DVR has anti-piracy code in it that sometimes detects your receiver as an unauthorized recording device and then will not allow anything to be sent to it for fear of piracy. But in your case, you are getting video and audio to your receiver without an error message.

You might have a faulty HDMI cable. If you can borrow one or have another one on hand try using a different one to see if anything improves.

If that doesn't do anything you might need to goto monoprice.com and buy one of their HDMI v1.3 switchers so you can run HDMI from your cable box and from your sound system receiver to the switcher, and then one HDMI cable to your HDTV. And then run a digital optical audio cable from your cable box to your receiver for audio.

The switchers aren't very expensive and should fix your problem (if it isn't a faulty HDMI cable). If the problem persists even with a switcher I'd say your HD-DVR is malfunctioning. And since you said your DVR sometimes is unaccessible, I'm leaning towards a bad HD-DVR as part of the problem.

To troubleshoot I'd try these steps (in order):
1) Try a different HDMI cable from your cable box to your receiver
2) Trade your HD-DVR into Comcast for a new one and see if the problem persists.
3) Buy the HDMI switcher from monoprice.com (make sure it is v1.3)
If all that fails, personally, I'd say you need someone to look at that!

I want to hook up an external hard drive to increase the record time available for my Motorola DCH3416 cable box. I already have drives with eSata, USB, and firwire ports.

Ive seen this before...that may be indicative of an upgrade of the software in the cable box that comes from your cable provider. The best thing to do is plug it back in, let it get the "yellow ring" for a bit, and wait for the upgrade (it make take 10 - 15 minutes). Then things should return to normal... If the condition persists, try to call the cable company.

D1 appears and after I shut down the power an E609 appears..


Called Comcast cable and they zapped it...waited 20 minutes...then it worked.

Its not going to work unless it is authorized by the cable company, and has the correct software.

I had the same problem before, and my cable provider told me to unplug your digital terminal for 60 seconds, then plugging it back in. It worked for me
