Question about Kenmore 46462 Front Load Washer

1 Answer

During the spin cycle, it makes a hideous, loud, rattling noise. Sounds like something has 1. come loose behind the barrel, 2. a bearing going out (do they have bearings?), or 3. a button or coin has gotten out of the barrel and into some mechanism...help!

If it sounds like a coin is rattling, chances are there is. Getting it out is not an easy feat. It requires pulling the drum out to get to the inside of the tub. Time may solve this problem as there is a reservoir at the water pump to catch coins and debris. You can access this by pulling the bottom panel off, locating the pump, and removing the rubber tube from pump and dumping contents.
I don't think I would suggest pulling the tub out with no experience for two reasons:
1. There is a rubber booth attached to the front door and the rub. Removing is easy. Putting back on is next to impossible by hand. 2. The tub is suspended by large springs. The tub is weighted by concrete and is extremely heavy. Removing it can cause injury if you are unfamiliar. Removing the springs can also be dangerous.

As for the the bearing noise. These units don't have a traditional transmission. The mother does the direction shifting. There is a bearing case, sometimes called the transmission, in this case, which is surprisingly easier to repair than getting the coin out.
Pull the screws off the back panel and remove cover. You will see a large wheel with a belt around it which also goes around a spindle on the motor at the bottom. Remove the belt simply by turning the wheel by and and slowly pushing the belt off, towards you, as you turn. Inspect the belt for wear or cracks. If needed, replace it.
Remove the wheel from the spindle and you will find a bearing or gear case. Simply remove and replace that case. You can order the part online at www.searspartsdirect.com. You will need the model number of the unit located on the back panel you removed. You may also order by calling: 1-800-252-1698.

Rattling noise in spin, spin problems becoming more pronounced. control panel lights flash but 0 error codes. unplug 2 reset, probl repeats

If this noise is happening while it's trying to drain water then you have something floating around in the lump. Coins are very common. If the noise is happening during a spin cycle and more pronounced during the final high spin cycle, you have bearing or spin tub issues. Time to go shopping.

Washer making loud noise and wont spin

Check and see if the inner drum is loose and floppy.if it is, it's likely the bearings have collapsed, and require replacement...If the drum feels stiff and tight, it could be that something is jammed between the inner and outer drums. Both situations could be costly...Get quotes....Good luck...Nomess

Loud noise during washing/rinsing cycles

I just replaced the bearings on my Front loader Maytag MAH5500B, as it sounded like a freight train during the spin cycle. The bearing replacement fixed the train problem.

NEW PROBLEM NOW: It's been about a month now since the bearing job and now something is clicking/binding when you spin the back belt wheel. I have taken the belt off and carefully move the wheel and I still get this clicking noise. It sounds as if someone is hitting the plastic drum that the tub is surrounded by. I really doubt it's the bearings this soon, as the sound is not the same! No leaks or metal shavings to speak of or rubbing of the belt wheel.

Seems like it's more noticeable during the wash/rinse cycles then the spin.

Can anyone help.???

Wfw8300sw01 - makes loud noise sounds during spin

The bearings have collapesd due to the seal going faulty. If bearings can be accessed to from the outside, it is possible you could do the repair. If big bearing and seal is accessed from the inside, suggest tech. do it as it gets dirty and a lot more complex.

Water leaking and loud noise and rattling on final spin cycle

Turn the drum by hand and if you hear any noises it is the rear bearing. If there is no noise then remove the front bottom panel and take out the coin trap on the pump and check those hoses.

Loud Noise - Spin Cycle

If the washer is making a squealing noise, the problem is more likely to be the basket drive. If it is more like a rattling sound, the centerpost bearings are probably worn out. Open machine's rear panel and spin the basket manually by turning the drive pulley, to find out from where exactly the noise come from. Defective part should be replaced. Good luck !!
