Access Denied errors

Have the drive connected to my wireless router. Both my Vista and Mac machines can see the drive and even access it - but eventually it always ends up with an error saying "access dcenied". Help! This is sooo frustrating!

same thing...just don't know how to fix it

I spoke to WD support who said it is a bg problem. They recommended to upgrade to World book II (more cost!!), change for another drive...but none with ethernet available except for this (all others USB) or get a refund from the retailer. They (WD) took my details and will respond to me shortly.

Appalling. Don't Buy. Western haven't taken their forums offline and support don't know how to fix this problem.

If you have one, return it. I unfortunatley have disassembled mine - so I'll be loading it into a USB caddy.

Same problem for my on my brand new drive.
I found a solution on the web that points to reformatting the drive as a fix:

I can't be bothered and am going to try and sell it.

How to setup a wireless connection to HD-HG300LAN & Lenovo Laptop

Either connect it to the router ..and access it in the network ..or get into its settings ..and enable the wireless and connect to it wireless just like any other wireless connection ..
here are the manual and the quick set-up for it ..
You can even connect it directly to usb ..but will not have teh capability for wireless ..
The best way is to connect it to the router and access it from this point ..THis way you can access it from a cable LAN connection and from the router;s wireless one ..and even from its own wireless connection if it is enabled..
the general idea is that will share the information on it by cable and its own wireless ..and you will not depend on the internet connection unless you want to connect to it from another location .
In general the configuration is made just like in a router ..access it from the browser or by run command..

Wifi says connected but no internet

To make sure that the ARCHOS can recognize the presence of the WiFi access point, go to Menu > Settings > Wireless controls > WiFi settings and then see what is listed under the section "Wi-Fi Networks". One or several WiFi access points should be listed.

If the access point you want to connect to is not listed, then it might be
• Because the router/modem is not switched on.
• Because the router/modem access point is set to not broadcast its identity (even though it is available for use). Ask the manager of the WiFi modem/router to temporarily enable the identity (SSID) broadcasting. To do so, one would have to go into the settings of the router/modem either by using the web browser or a special application program that came with the router/modem. Search for a setting that has a name something like "Hide SSID" and make sure it is off. Once this is done, the ARCHOS should recognize the access point and be able to connect to it. The ARCHOS just needs to connect once and it will "know" this access point - even when it is later "hidden". The WiFi router/modem can then be set back to "Hidden SSID". In general, hiding the SSID of your modem/router is ineffective as a security measure so you might as well just leave it on.

I have a SimpleTech 500G external hard dirve that I have been using on a Toshiba laptop with Windows XP. I have a new Toshiba that runs Windows 7 (upgraded from Vista) that I want to use the same external...

Access is denied is typically a security/sharing violation. If your on the administrative account on the 7 machine – adjust the security of drive. From my computer right click on the drive go to properties. You will have to click on each of the user groups and modify the security settings you wish. Also on the advanced tab should be an option to take control of the drive.

The hard disk in drive D: is not accessible

Hope I can help you with your problem. If your hard drive was installed to be used as D: in your old computer then you will have to set it up to be D: in the new computer. This may be why it is not being recognized. You can do this by connecting it as a slave on the primary IDE cable.
Also you will need to check the jumper on the hard drive to make sure it is set in the slave position.

Accessing a folder.

This will sound off the wall, but we had something similar to this happen with my last laptop, where it was "access denied" in lots of areas, and we would have to find little backdoor ways to get into control panel and document files. The problem with our computer was that it had previously crashed, and we had rebooted and reinstalled the xp, but didn't have the registration number, so it would run ok, but to get into all those access denied things (which you eventually need to get into) we had to come up with our registration number.
Did it prompt you to enter the product key when you re-installed it?

Access denied

You need to log in as administrator to do that, whether you are in Windows, Linux, or Mac. Also you will have to enable sharing for your particular setup.
